Is Princess Leia Mentioned in ANDOR Season 2?

In episode six of season 2 of the show Andor, we encounter once more a crucial figure in the Star Wars storyline, Senator Bail Organa from Alderaan, now portrayed by actor Benjamin Bratt instead of Jimmy Smits who played him before. With the reappearance of Bail Organa, viewers can’t help but wonder where his daughter, Princess Leia Organa, is. The episodes leading up to the last two in season 2 take place 2 years Before the Battle of Yavin (BBY), so we know that at this point, Leia serves as a junior Imperial senator and has already started supporting the rebels. However, Bail doesn’t mention her during these events even though she is his daughter.

It’s been clarified that Leia won’t feature in the Andor series, as the actress who portrayed her in Obi-Wan Kenobi, Vivien Lyra Blair, hasn’t been asked back by Lucasfilm. Since she is only 12 years old currently, a teenage actress would have likely been cast for Leia at the time of Andor’s last few episodes, as Leia is around 17-19 years old in those episodes. The production team behind Andor probably avoided recasting Carrie Fisher, who played Leia in the original saga, at a similar age to when she first appeared on screen. However, it’s striking that there’s no reference to Leia at all in the series, given her significant role in the Star Wars saga.

The only official onscreen representation of Leia Organa prior to “A New Hope”/ “Rogue One”, aside from Obi-Wan Kenobi, can be found in the Star Wars Rebels episode titled “A Princess on Lothal”. In this episode, we see a 15-year-old Leia working as a representative for her father’s senatorial office, clandestinely assisting various rebel groups. During this time, she crosses paths with the crew of the Ghost, embarking on an exciting journey together. Meanwhile, her brother Luke is still engaged in activities on Tatooine, while Leia is already immersed in the struggle. This circumstance raises some questions about why there’s no reference to her earlier exploits.

In episode nine, there could potentially be a hidden reference to Leia through Bail Organa’s actions. When Mon Mothma is preparing to speak out against Palpatine regarding the Ghorman massacre in the Senate, she anticipates that Bail will join her in taking a public stand and leaving with her. However, Bail informs her he can’t leave for Yavin 4 just yet as he has too much at stake. Given Bail Organa’s bravery, it seems likely that his reluctance to leave might stem from concern for Leia’s safety. Since Bail is aware that Leia is the daughter of Anakin Skywalker and potentially the last beacon for a new Jedi Order, he appears unwilling to act selfishly and jeopardize her well-being at this time.

Is it possible that Princess Leia will be brought up before the end of Andor? It’s plausible since the final episodes are connected to the events in Rogue One. By then, she would have already been involved with the Rebel Alliance, stationed on Yavin 4 base with her starcruiser, the Tantive IV. Remember, she played a significant role in the battle of Scarif. Although we might not see her physically, it’s hoped that we hear a reference to the young senator from Alderaan, who is poised to alter the trajectory of galactic history.
