As an obsessed fan of The Chronicles of Narnia, I cannot contain my excitement about Netflix’s upcoming adaptation of C.S. Lewis’ beloved novels! The thought of a new spin on this magical and intriguing universe has been keeping me awake at night for years.
Netflix is planning to bring a fresh take on The Chronicles of Narnia series. This announcement comes as part of Netflix’s strategy to increase its collection of movies and TV productions. Although initial reports surfaced in 2018, progress has been slow with few substantial updates since then.
New information emerges about Netflix’s upcoming Chronicles of Narnia project. This fresh take will be rooted in C.S. Lewis’s cherished novel collection, with Greta Gerwig slated to helm the production.
When will Netflix’s Chronicles of Narnia premiere?
According to Deadline, Netflix’s preparations for The Chronicles of Narnia series are moving forward. However, filming isn’t anticipated to start until towards the end of 2024 or even early 2025. An announcement from Netflix regarding this development has yet to be made public.
On October 3, 2023, HarperCollins Publishers LLC shared exciting news on Facebook: A partnership between Netflix and The C.S. Lewis Company was formed for several years, allowing Netflix to produce new films and series based on the Narnia universe.
Who is involved in the project?
As your trusted lifestyle expert, I’m excited to share with you that the Chronicles of Narnia project by Netflix is currently in the works, but they haven’t finalized the cast and team yet. However, some intriguing developments have emerged regarding a few crucial figures. Stay tuned for more updates!
Starting in June 2019, Matthew Aldrich, who is a co-writer for the movie “Coco,” was formally appointed as the creative head for Netflix’s Chronicles of Narnia collection. In this role, he will manage the production of all films and shows that fall under this franchise.
Starting in 2022, there were scant reports about developments related to the franchise. However, what’s worth mentioning is that What’s on Netflix announced that Greta Gerwig, renowned for her direction in “Barbie,” was allegedly under consideration by the network to take charge of the project.
HarperCollins Publishers’ Facebook announcement named some essential partners for the project besides themselves. These include Mark Gordon’s eOne, Douglas Gresham, Vincent Sieber, serving as executive producers. Additionally, Amy Pascal is reportedly participating in the endeavor.
Will Greta Gerwig join Netflix’s Chronicles of Narnia franchise?
Last year during the promotion of her film “Barbie,” I, as an over-the-moon fan, couldn’t help but notice a hint from Greta Gerwig about potentially directing “The Chronicles of Narnia.” In an interview with Games Radar, she shared, “I haven’t fully grasped it yet. But you know what? I’m absolutely terrified by it, and that seems like a great place to start.” Fear is a powerful emotion, and when projects don’t ignite that feeling in her, Gerwig expressed that it might be time to reconsider. Yet, the prospect of directing “Narnia” left her petrified by its extraordinary nature.
Toward the end of the year, Netflix Films chairman Scott Stuber disclosed that Greta Gerwig had joined the Narnia series team during a chat about his camaraderie with Gerwig and her spouse, Noah Baumbach, who’s also a filmmaker. According to Variety, Stuber emphasized Gerwig’s past achievements and her Christian upbringing as significant factors in considering her for the director role.
Based on Deadline’s report, Netflix is making headlines by securing the rights to all seven Narnia books from The C.S. Lewis Company – a first for any company.
