Is Kevin Costner Looking Forward To Directing The Third Part Of Horizon Despite First Movie’s Underperformance? Here’s What Actor Revealed

As an ardent admirer of Kevin Costner and his illustrious career spanning over four decades, I find it truly inspiring to witness the unwavering determination he exhibits towards his craft. His recent remarks at the Venice Film Festival regarding the underperformance of Horizon: The American Saga, Chapter 1, resonate with me deeply, as a fellow artist who has also experienced the ups and downs of this tumultuous industry.

In a more straightforward and conversational manner: Kevin Costner has announced that he’ll be stepping behind the camera for the third film in the Horizon series. At the Venice Film Festival, he discussed how the initial movie in the franchise didn’t do as well financially.

According to Costner, he’s committed to helping ensure the film succeeds if given the chance. The actor explained that, in his opinion, the poor reception the movie received was due to Warner Bros. Studios constantly changing the release date for the sequel.

The Yellowstone star shared with the audience at the event, “I think it probably was a reaction to the release of 1—it didn’t have overwhelming success.” He further added, “That was a studio decision to release it six weeks later, and it became a studio situation to not release it that quickly.”

Over the course of his career in cinema, Costner has observed that films which initially fail at the box office can eventually be recognized as classics.

The actor from Dances with Wolves expressed, “Many of my films have managed to stay relevant over time.” He continued, “For myself, this schedule fit perfectly into my strategy. You see, I’ve always aimed to release five to six movies every year, which would give me the opportunity to attend the Venice Film Festival.

While discussing Chapter 3 of Horizon, Costner shared that he needs to work swiftly in order to deliver an engaging and captivating storyline to the audience.

Speaking at the esteemed Venice Film Festival, as a passionate advocate for a fulfilling lifestyle, I find myself expressing a sentiment similar to that of a determined climber. You see, I can’t let this rock roll back downhill; instead, I must re-grasp it and continue to push it upward. This task is like a rope I refuse to let slip from my hands. I may not know precisely how I’ll achieve the next three milestones, but I am resolute in my pursuit.

In June 2024, the initial Horizon movie premiered in cinemas and raked in approximately $34 million, a sum deemed lower than usual. As of now, Horizon: The American Saga, part 1, is available for streaming on Max. The producers have yet to reveal the specifics regarding the release of the second film.
