As an ardent fan who has been tuning into The Today Show for years, I must say that Hoda Kotb’s decision to step away from her morning talk show feels like a punch to the gut. Her warmth, wit, and relatability have made her an integral part of my daily routine and a constant source of comfort and inspiration.
Hoda Kotb is stepping down from her daily talk show to devote more attention to her loved ones. On Thursday, September 26th, she officially announced this change in a published letter, acknowledging that although it’s difficult, she feels confident about her choice.
During their Thursday episode, Kotb found herself in tears as she shared her desire to make the most of her time on the show with her dear colleagues. As emotions swelled within Kotb, her co-hosts Savannah Guthrie, Jenna Bush Hegar, and Al Roker gathered around her for support.
As she fought back tears, the talk show host remarked, “I felt it was about time for me to turn a fresh chapter at sixty and embark on something novel.” The Today Show revealed Kotb’s letter, where she wrote, “At this moment, my heart is filled with various emotions.
She added, “I’m certain I’m choosing correctly, yet it’s a tough choice. You are the very reason for this difficulty. It’s possible to be correct in two different things at once, and I’m experiencing that duality now. I care for you deeply, but it’s become necessary for me to depart from the production.
Expressing their warm sentiments towards Hoda Kotb, the co-hosts joined in by offering a well-wishing and hopeful message. Guthrie further expressed his admiration for his friend, stating that he is proud of her as she embarks on a fresh chapter in her life. In addition, the TV personality praised his colleague’s courage in leaving the show while still at its peak.
Guthrie expressed, “Hoda, the depth of our affection for you is immense, and those tears you see are a testament to that love. In truth, it’s hard for us to even contemplate—we’d rather not—this place without your presence. It’s challenging because we cherish you so deeply and don’t want you to leave, but I also feel compelled to say how incredibly proud I am of my friend.
She continued by saying, “Your courage truly impresses me. You motivate me in a way that no one else does. I adore you, and this isn’t the end. I plan on paying you a visit at your home.
During her continued stint on the program, Kotb shared that she had been pondering this choice for quite some time. However, her sixtieth birthday celebration on the Plaza seemed like a turning point. It was like a massive, joyful affirmation: “You are!” I recognized it all so vividly: my broadcast career has been incredibly significant, a new decade of my life is approaching, and now my daughters and my mother require, and deserve, a larger portion of my time.
Although the TV host is departing from the morning talk show, she’ll remain with the NBC network until early 2025.
