As a devoted fan, I stumbled upon some grainy snapshots online, which hinted at Dwayne Johnson embodying the appearance of Maui for the live-action Moana film. To clarify, this action star has lent his voice to the Demigod character in previous Disney animated adaptations.
Indeed, even though the images portrayed him as muscular with intricately positioned Maui tattoos adorning his physique, it’s worth mentioning that the actor from the Fast and Furious series was spotted donning a leafy green skirt as well.
Some social media users and those well-acquainted with Dwayne Johnson’s physique suggested that the actor could possibly be wearing a body suit in certain images.
The ambiguities were resolved when several distinct photos, allegedly leaked, appeared online as shared by Comicbook. According to this source, the actor of Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle was almost unidentifiable from behind. From these images, it appears that Dwayne Johnson might have been wearing a suit with some sort of opening or zipper.
According to the source, the images additionally depicted ripples on his arms and torso that appeared unnaturally exaggerated.
Subsequently, another image featuring The Fate of the Furious actor emerged on X (previously known as Twitter), depicting him casually posing with a fan.
In the image, it appears that his body type is more typical and noticeably different compared to the photos taken during the filming of Moana.
Simultaneously, on-set images revealed Dwayne Johnson sporting the iconic long, dark hair like Maui, the Demigod, did in the animated film. Additionally, he was seen adorning a necklace made of a whale’s tooth.
For those who may not know, this particular necklace holds significant value in Polynesian tradition and is either referred to as ‘sisi’ or ‘wàseisei’. Notably, these tooth-adorned necklaces are often donned by individuals of elevated social standing.
Although the live-action version is yet to be completed, you can enjoy the further escapades of Moana and the Demigod Maui in the upcoming sequel of the 2016 Disney animation film.
