Is Donald Trump Still Seeking Legal Action Against Sebastian Stan-Starrer The Apprentice? Latest Reports Explored Amid Telluride Screening

As a dedicated cinephile who has witnessed the tumultuous journey of films from pre-production to post-release, this latest update on “The Apprentice” has piqued my interest. The cat-and-mouse game between the filmmakers and Donald Trump’s team has been nothing short of riveting. It’s a unique scenario where fact meets fiction, and it seems that for now, fiction might just have the upper hand.

The movie “The Apprentice,” starring Sebastian Stan, which created quite a buzz when it premiered at the Cannes Film Festival, has recently received some fresh news. According to recent reports, the film directed by Ali Abbasi may avoid severe consequences from the team of Donald Trump.

As reported by Deadline, Trump’s team plans to disengage from the issue, optimistic that a movie detailing the life of the ex-president of the U.S. will gradually lose traction and disappear over time.

Sources close to the situation shared the new update with the outlet.

However, there are high chances that this approach might change in the future and a lawsuit might still be filed. But as of now, the film is out of risk from any serious legal troubles.

Speaking with Deadline, Trump campaign communications director Steven Cheung expressed that this information is entirely fabricated and sensationalizes lies that have already been proven false.

If you didn’t know already, when The Apprentice was premiered at the Cannes Film Festival this year, the team of the former president issued a cease-and-desist order to the filmmakers and even threatened to sue over the Ali Abbasi-directed and Gabriel Sherman-written movie.

By May 27th, 2024, the legal team at Trump’s Dhillon Law Group requested that the film distributors halt the dissemination of their content within the United States.

In summary, lawyers from Alexandra, Virginia expressed their disapproval towards a film praised at the Cannes Film Festival, labeling it as a “fabrication of falsehoods” that consistently smears President Trump and represents an unacceptable form of foreign meddling in American elections.

Additionally, the lawyers warned the filmmakers that if they didn’t halt the distribution and promotion of the movie within the U.S., Team Turmps might be compelled to take necessary legal actions.

At the time of its premiere at the Cannes Film Festival, director Abbasi expressed that while there’s much discussion about Donald Trump filing lawsuits against others, less attention is given to his rise to prominence and the steps he took to achieve success – as mentioned during a May 21 press conference at Cannes.

The television series “The Apprentice” features Sebastian Stan portraying Donald Trump, with Jeremy Strong playing his lawyer Roy Cohn, alongside several renowned actors. At Telluride’s Galaxy Theater on August 31, the director clarified to the large audience that his creation is not a politically-charged film, rather, it is an artistic work.
