On Saturday Night Live (SNL), they commemorated the November elections by presenting a comical sketch, which started off with a historical nod and finished with a sharp critique aimed at President Donald Trump.
In the show, the renowned Broadway actor Lin-Manuel Miranda played the role of the rapping Founding Father from Hamilton that he previously performed. However, during this particular scene, his act was disrupted by James Austin Johnson’s portrayal of Donald Trump, who channeled the former president’s distinctive, flamboyant demeanor.
During the initial scene, Miranda’s character, Alexander Hamilton, was accompanied by colonial figures sporting wigs. Hamilton articulated America’s core values, emphasizing, “What truly matters is the nation we construct. For in America, all individuals are inherently equal. America, distinct from England. We’re creating a continuation. And in America, there will be leaders, but not a single dominant force. In America, we shall never have a monarch.
Trump’s interjection abruptly ended the conversation, and he jokingly said, “Never say never,” but then added with a hint of seriousness, “I’m implying as much, although there are many instances where I’m quite sincere. I’m in my reign now.
Trump subsequently voiced his stance on phasing out positions dedicated to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) within the federal government. “DEI is finished, it’s extinct,” Trump proclaimed, satirically criticizing the idea of diverse workplaces. He suggested that work environments should revert back to resembling the TV series The Office.
Trump went into an extended discussion about different episodes during his presidency, eventually focusing on his inauguration. “It was indoors because of the cold and apprehension,” he remarked. “However, it turned out there were unexpected attendees. For instance, Melania. That was a pleasant surprise.
He additionally acknowledged the presence of billionaires at the gathering with a shout-out: “Hey Zuck, Bezos, Tim Cook, and of course, Elon. We’re big fans of Elon.” Trump also brought up his connection with Elon Musk, mentioning some words attributed to Musk’s own kids: “He’s not someone I’d choose to have around,” referring to himself in the third person.
As a die-hard fan, I found myself utterly captivated as the scene took an amusing twist when Trump zeroed in on Miranda, standing statuesque onstage. “Quite an unusual outfit, don’t you think?” he quipped, mocking her colonial attire. “A dash of zestiness, if you ask me.
Later, he shifted his focus towards Miranda’s rigid posture. “Check out Lin here, longing to perform a rap… Unfortunately, he won’t get the chance.” If the crowd had been there, they would have loved it.
This version retains the original meaning while making the language more conversational and easier to understand.
Trump additionally discussed the remarkable milestones in Miranda’s career. He mentioned that Miranda is almost within reach of achieving the coveted EGOT, a term used for individuals who have won an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony Award. Furthermore, Trump stated that Miranda needs to stay patient until he completes his achievements.
