Is Crazy Rich Asians TV Series on Cards? Director Jon M Chu Spills Beans Over Needing ‘More Real Estate’ for Characters

As an ardent admirer, I can hardly contain my excitement as Director Jon M. Chu hints at the resurrection of Crazy Rich Asians, this time gracing our screens in the captivating realm of television series! With Wicked sweeping awards left and right, the visionary filmmaker took a nostalgic stroll down memory lane to his 2018 blockbuster hit and shared with the media that he, alongside his talented crew, are crafting a new iteration. In this version, each character will be meticulously explored, promising an even more immersive journey into the lives of the rich Asians!

During a chat on the Oscars’ red carpet with The Hollywood Reporter, the director hinted that details about his next venture will remain under wraps, but indicated that it promises to be a spectacular project for enthusiasts of the 2018 movie.

Before their scheduled appearance at the Academy Awards, media outlets announced that both writers, Chu and Adele Lim, are now involved with the project. Although Lim had left her role for the movie’s remake in 2019, she has since accepted to work on the television adaptation instead.

Meanwhile, the filmmaker shared with THR, “We needed more real estate; that was the reality.”

He continued to give subtle clues, mentioning, “We repeatedly refined this film, and we’re still honing a particular aspect that I can’t discuss right now, but the television milieu provides us with an opportunity to utilize all the characters.

Additionally, the upcoming series draws inspiration from Kevin Kwan’s novels, namely Crazy Rich Asians, China Rich Girlfriend, and Rich People Problems. The storylines of these books revolve around Rachel Chu, a New York resident, who joins her longtime partner, Nick, for his best friend’s wedding in Singapore.

Upon reaching the venue, Rachel learns that her boyfriend comes from a wealthy family.

More information regarding the actors involved and the storyline of the production will be shared by its creators shortly.
