As a dedicated follower of Bill Maher for years now, I must say that his recent threat to quit Real Time had me holding my breath. Having grown accustomed to his insightful commentary and biting wit, the thought of him leaving was not something I was ready to entertain. But thankfully, it seems like a harmless joke from the man himself, as confirmed by Nina Rosenstein, an HBO executive.
Fans of Bill Maher may have experienced a moment of unease when he hinted at leaving Real Time on his podcast, Club Random. However, there’s no need to worry! Maher continues to hold the position as host for the show. This was confirmed by Nina Rosenstein, an executive from HBO, according to Deadline.
In the latest episode of Maher’s podcast, Jane Fonda was a guest. During their conversation, Maher expressed concern, using somewhat colorful language, about the possibility of Donald Trump being re-elected as President.
He talked about it being difficult to believe. Maher said, “I mean, I may quit because I don’t want to do another. I did Trump. I did all the Trump stuff before anybody.” The host stated that he was the first one who said Truno was a “con man” before anybody. Maher further said, “He’s a mafia boss. I was the one who said he wasn’t going to concede the election. I’ve done it.”
According to Deadline, when asked about possibly leaving the show by the EVP of HBO Programming for Late Night and Specials, Rosenstein replied that several individuals have inquired about this matter.
Rosenstein also disclosed that Maher taped the episode immediately following the election, and at that time, he was merely joking casually. Furthermore, Rosenstein added that Maher frequently expresses affection for Real Time, considering it his primary passion.
Following the announcement that the series has been extended for another two seasons, the HBO executive provides a clear explanation, with this decision extending Maher’s run up until the year 2026, according to Deadline.
According to a report released last month, Maher announced his plans to unveil a new comedy special on HBO. Titled “Bill Maher: Is Anyone Else Seeing This?”, the special is set to premiere in January.
According to Deadline, Rosenstein referred to his comedic remarks as a “signature element” that he’s brought to the network for twenty years. He appreciated his dedication to both humor and truthfulness, emphasizing that these qualities would undoubtedly shine in his upcoming special.
