On the Armchair Expert podcast with Dax Shepard on March 10, Lauren Graham acknowledged that Gilmore Girls fans are keen for another revival, but she also admitted it’s not straightforward to bring about. Reflecting on the enduring influence of the show, she pondered over its impact.
She wondered, ‘How can we pay tribute to those who have kept [Gilmore Girls] going?’ Could it involve giving them more content? Perhaps like Reese Witherspoon is doing with the Legally Blonde prequel, Elle? Is this akin to Captain Marvel’s multiverse, where you follow different characters? Or do we try to revisit the original series instead?
For seven seasons from 2000 to 2007, the initial show featured Lauren Graham portraying Lorelai Gilmore and Alexis Bledel playing her daughter Rory. This production was then reborn in 2016 as a four-part Netflix miniseries titled “Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life.
According to US Weekly, Graham is considering different ways for the series to progress, and he thinks that a holiday-themed episode might be the most feasible option.
Lauren Graham mentioned that she wasn’t intentionally evading the question, but rather, she honestly believed that a Christmas-themed film was the most plausible choice, taking into account everyone’s lives and busy schedules.
She pointed out that British television productions frequently manage popular series effectively by producing Christmas specials, providing a platform for viewers to reunite with their cherished characters without necessitating numerous episodes.
She mentioned the latest Walmart Christmas ad featuring Scott Patterson, who portrayed Luke Danes, as a heartwarming instance of a reunion that resonated with viewers. She expressed her appreciation for how it subtly demonstrated “what happened next” in the characters’ lives.
If another revival occurs, Graham admits it would need a fresh strategy. The Netflix miniseries concluded with a significant cliffhanger, as Rory announced she was expecting. Although Graham isn’t certain if another revival is appropriate, she’s willing to reappear in the role if given the chance.
