Iron Man (RDJ) Gives Ironheart ‘Two Thumbs Up’

Even Spider-Man didn’t earn a complete thumbs up from Iron Man, but Marvel Studio’s upcoming star, Ironheart, has been endorsed by Iron Man himself. In an interview with Empire, the actress playing Ironheart, Dominique Thorne, revealed that Robert Downey Jr., who plays Iron Man and will also portray Doctor Doom in the MCU, gave her a glowing review. Although it’s possible that RDJ may have approved of Ironheart as Iron Man rather than Doctor Doom, it certainly would add an intriguing twist to the story. Here’s what Thorne discussed about her meetings with Robert Downey Jr. before the release of Ironheart this summer.

As a fellow movie enthusiast, let me share with you an exciting tidbit from my recent chat with Robert Downey Jr., post-wrapping up the film “Ironheart”. He generously expressed some heartwarming sentiments about my journey, sharing his genuine excitement and support. To top it off, he gave me a pair of virtual thumbs-up! It’s incredibly reassuring to know that I’m not letting down the Iron Man legacy.

As a die-hard movie fan, I must say, nobody wants to make Tony Stark, aka Iron Man, look bad – trust me, he’d never let you forget it! But when it comes to Ironheart, the girl sporting an armor similar to Iron Man, the pressure is really on. Still, Thorne hints that her tale will have a grittier edge, though not without some assistance. “She’s scavenging through dumpsters while Tony Stark was this billionaire,” Thorne says, and let me tell you, Riri’s project in Ironheart is no joke – she’s spent time with the Wakandans, after all! And we all know that when it comes to innovation, nobody does it quite like them. Frankly, I have high hopes that Ironheart’s work will outshine even Iron Man’s!

We’ve been eagerly anticipating more Ironheart since we last saw Riri Williams in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, which came out three years ago. The Ironheart series was announced in the summer of 2022, with an original release date set for 2023. However, due to scheduling changes, it’s now slated to premiere in June 2025. At this point, we don’t know much about Ironheart, but its synopsis hints that “after the events of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Marvel Television’s Ironheart finds Riri Williams (Dominique Thorne)—a young, brilliant inventor—returning to her hometown of Chicago. Her innovative approach to creating iron suits catches the attention of the enigmatic Parker Robbins aka “The Hood” (Anthony Ramos), leading her on an adventure filled with mystery and charm.

We’re absolutely excited to share that we’ve got our thumbs at the ready to cheer for Ironheart, just like Iron Man’s. Bring it on, Ironheart releases on June 24, 2025!
