‘Invincible’ Showrunner Teases a Very Fun and Exciting Third Season

As a die-hard fan who has been captivated by the superhero genre for as long as I can remember (and that’s quite a few decades!), I must say that Invincible has truly rejuvenated my love for this universe. Much like a seasoned comic book collector who stumbled upon a hidden gem, I found myself engrossed in Amazon’s animated adaptation of the beloved series.

Amazon’s animated series adaptation of “Invincible” has gained significant popularity, similar to “The Boys.” Both shows share a commonality in their satirical take on mainstream American superhero comics. This freshly animated rendition of a well-known comic book provides an entirely novel perspective on the conventional superhero genre that we’re familiar with.

Although it’s an animated show, it managed to capture a significant amount of interest and became one of Amazon’s beloved series in various aspects. This was achieved by attracting a large audience and fostering a highly engaged and devoted fan base. Its popularity stems from these factors, making it one of the most intriguing and widely-watched series today.

Following two triumphant seasons, spectators eagerly anticipate the arrival of the third installment, and while we’ve previously shared that it will premiere next year (the specific date will be revealed before the end of this year), we also have some thrilling tidbits about what viewers can look forward to in the upcoming season.

In an engaging conversation, our team at The Direct spoke to Simon Racioppa, showrunner and producer of Invincible, who shared some intriguing insights about Season 3. Here’s a glimpse of what he unveiled:

“A large part of the enjoyment from Season 3 comes from grappling with the aftermath of Season 2’s events. We’re dealing with the ripple effects, the lasting trauma, and figuring out how these experiences shape our characters in future episodes. It’s intriguing because we get to see new challenges for our characters in Season 3 while still keeping the previous seasons’ impact fresh. Essentially, it’s about maintaining continuity and ensuring that the past influences our characters’ actions moving forward.”

Additionally, he shared his appreciation for the structured storyline of the 144-issue “Invincible” comic book series, which played a crucial role in creating the television show.

One intriguing aspect of our series that really captivated me from the beginning, and continues to do so even now, is its consistency. Unlike many other shows, ‘Invincible’ doesn’t restart or rewind. Instead, it begins here, develops through 144 issues, and concludes here. The narrative never resets or goes back on itself, and we don’t find ourselves asking every year, “What new adventure do we have this time?”

Ultimately, he also discussed the character development of the show:

“We strive for our characters and world to continuously develop, fostering authentic change while maintaining a sense of realism. This process is fascinating, as our talented team brainstorms how these transformations will impact our characters’ emotions and actions. At the same time, we aim to create an exhilarating superhero series, so it’s about skillfully merging these elements together in pursuit of an exceptional season.”
