Insider Claims that Lucasfilm Had Been Planning to Renew ‘The Acolyte’ Up Until Recently. What Happened?!

As a die-hard Star Wars fan who has followed the saga since its inception, I must confess that the abrupt ending of The Acolyte left me feeling like Obi-Wan Kenobi when he found out about Darth Vader’s true identity – shocked and bewildered. It seemed we were on a promising path towards an exciting new adventure, only to be met with a sudden twist that left us hanging in the balance.

The latest Disney venture within the Star Wars universe, titled The Acolyte, has sparked significant debate since its premiere. This is largely due to several contentious events and instances of widespread review-bombing that eclipsed any controversy associated with prior Star Wars productions. Despite the tumult, the series concluded after eight episodes in total.

Fans had been eagerly anticipating another season for “The Acolyte”, but it’s now been revealed that Lucasfilm won’t be proceeding with it, meaning there won’t be a second installment. This announcement has ignited fresh discussions, as some people are content with the series ending, while others voice their discontent.

Despite varying opinions on how The Acolyte might conclude, an insider suggests that the decision to terminate the series was made unexpectedly. It is alleged that Lucasfilm had intentions to carry on with the series right up until quite recently, and they had even been given a tentative approval. So, one may wonder, what caused the change of heart?

Just a heads-up: The information we’re sharing now comes as a rumor from a source inside Disney. This person claims to be connected to Disney, but their identity remains unverified. The following details should be regarded as unofficial, so please consider it with a dose of skepticism.

Moving forward, let’s discuss the topic at hand. As previously mentioned, “The Acolyte” has been terminated by Lucasfilm, and regrettably, there won’t be a follow-up season. Although some may have anticipated this outcome, Lucasfilm had not been particularly forthright about it. Contrary to earlier reports suggesting a second season, it appears that it didn’t materialize as expected. If you question our optimism, consider the following tweet:

UPDATE: It’s being reported that Disney and Lucasfilm were indeed setting up a writing team for #TheMandalorian spinoff series, The Acolyte, as early as February, with Leslye Headland at the helm. Moreover, they had been discreetly investigating potential directors for Season 2.

Update: Based on my reliable sources at Disney and Lucasfilm, it appears that “The Acolyte” was indeed gathering a team for Season 2 as early as February, under the leadership of Leslye Headland. Moreover, discussions about potential directors for Season 2 were ongoing as late as last month. The show seemed to have a tentative go-ahead, often referred to internally as “cancelled,” despite the public statement. In simpler terms, it seems that “The Acolyte” has been cancelled.

Based on our previous reports and considering the current situation, it’s plausible that this claim could be true. However, neither Disney nor Lucasfilm has confirmed anything definitively. The low viewership numbers and Disney’s analysis of the series during their recent D23 event might have led to the decision to cancel the show, although we cannot confirm this for certain.
