Industry Insider Shares Grim Update on MCU’s ‘Blade’ Reboot

Prior to the latest SAG-AFTRA strikes, there have been substantial challenges in the production of the eagerly awaited ‘Blade’ remake. This upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe film, centered around the legendary vampire hunter Eric Brooks, was intended to revive the successful ‘Blade’ trilogy, which significantly influenced today’s MCU.

Ever since Mahershala Ali was initially cast as Blade back in 2018, the production of this project has faced script issues and undergone numerous shifts in writers and directors during its progression.

The film has been postponed multiple times and was recently removed from Disney’s release calendar without a new date being announced. Instead, “Predator: Badlands” will take its place on the schedule.

Following the postponement of the movie’s premiere, Feige personally provided an update stating that Ali remains attached to the film, and work on the project is ongoing. Since then, there have been no additional official announcements regarding the project.

According to industry expert Daniel Richtman, posted on his Patreon, the upcoming ‘Blade’ reboot appears to have been postponed indefinitely. This could imply that the project might not be under active production at the moment, but it may still see release in the future, or alternatively, it could mean the movie has quietly been put on hold, with an official announcement of its cancellation pending.

Bear in mind that the rumor of a Blade reboot hasn’t been verified by any credible sources yet. Nonetheless, it’s worth noting that there are growing concerns among fans about Mahershala Ali’s age suitability for the role, given that this concern seems to escalate with each passing year.

It appears that earlier predictions suggested the film would start shooting by the end of this year, but recent developments cast doubt on that possibility. Currently, the movie lacks both a director and a final screenplay. The most recent update about the script was back in June 2024, when it was announced that Eric Pearson had been tasked with revising it.
