As a die-hard fan of Pixar movies, I’ve been eagerly waiting for updates on the third “Incredibles” film. The exciting news is, it’s official! At D23 in August 2024, Disney/Pixar announced the third Incredibles movie. Now, we have our first substantial update about the project. According to Deadline, Peter Sohn, who has previously directed “Elemental” and “The Good Dinosaur,” will be taking the director’s chair for “Incredibles 3.” This marks a shift in direction, as Brad Bird, who had helmed the previous Incredibles films, is now only responsible for writing the screenplay and producing the movie along with Dana Murray.
In 2004, the original Incredibles movie was a massive success for Pixar. Given its superhero theme, fans eagerly anticipated a follow-up. However, Pixar patiently waited, finally releasing Incredibles 2 an impressive 14 years later in the summer of 2018. This timing put it alongside other popular superhero films that year, which may have contributed to its success. The year saw releases like Avengers: Infinity War, Black Panther, Deadpool 2, Venom, Aquaman, Ant-Man and the Wasp, and Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. Despite the abundance of superhero films in 2018, Incredibles 2 still grossed an astonishing $1.242 billion globally.
It’s likely that we’ll see a shorter gap between the release of the second and third Incredibles movies, though a specific date hasn’t been announced yet. If they’ve already secured a director, it might even be as early as 2027. The original Incredibles movie featured Craig T. Nelson and Holly Hunter as Mr. Incredible and Elastigirl, with Sarah Vowell and Spencer Fox as their superhero children Violet and Dash, respectively. Samuel L. Jackson played the ice-hero Frozone. We anticipate these voices will return for the third installment, but casting details haven’t been shared so far. Fingers crossed that baby Jack-Jack gets a larger role this time around; we can’t wait to see more of his incredible powers!
