I’m Sure Hidetaka Miyazaki Did The Duskbloods After Realizing the Elden Ring Nightreign Experience Is So Awful

It appears that Elden Ring Nightreign has been widely considered “average” by players and Steam ratings at this point. FromSoftware, it seems, may have ventured into a genre of video games where they’re not as comfortable, but Hidetaka Miyazaki is stepping in to help, which he may have anticipated would be necessary from the beginning.

Instead of being a rewarding adventure for Elden Ring enthusiasts, the game has transformed into one that exhausts its players, particularly those who choose to explore Limveld solo. Given that Nightreign didn’t meet player expectations as anticipated, let’s discuss Miyazaki’s backup strategy now.

Hidetaka Miyazaki potentially knew he had to step in the moment he saw Elden Ring Nightreign

Prior to Elden Ring Nightreign, it’s worth noting that Dark Souls 2 was the only Souls game not helmed by Hidetaka Miyazaki for over a decade. As we all recall, that didn’t turn out so great. However, in the past, Miyazaki stepped in to save the day, and it appears he will do so again this time around.

The forthcoming studio project, a joint venture with Nintendo for the impending Switch 2, will feature multiplayer capabilities. Notably, this upcoming title is being helmed by none other than Mr. Miyazaki, leading many to anticipate its release with renewed excitement.

For the president of FromSoftware, stepping into the multiplayer world is indeed uncharted territory. However, given his impressive track record of experimenting with new elements and achieving success, as demonstrated by his 2022 title “Elden Ring” and its groundbreaking open-world design – a first for Miyazaki in this genre – it’s safe to say he’s up for the challenge.

Although it’s difficult to say for certain, it seems plausible that after experiencing Elden Ring Nightreign, the director might have had a premonition about creating something to keep the studio afloat if their cooperative gameplay bet didn’t pay off.

How Hidetaka Miyazaki’s next project can indirectly push for an Elden Ring Sequel

Let’s travel back in time to the years 2013-14. Hidetaka Miyazaki is then collaborating with Sony on the development of Bloodborne. Simultaneously, FromSoftware focuses on the release of Dark Souls 2, a follow-up to Miyazaki’s initial Souls game following Demon’s Souls. However, this time, two different directors were in charge, which some believe led to its decline in quality compared to its predecessors.

Following this tumultuous incident, the beloved director returned and salvaged the Dark Souls trilogy by creating an outstanding third part. Fast forward to the present, the title Elden Ring, frequently referred to as his masterpiece, has suffered a partial setback with the launch of Nightreign as a spin-off. Having completed his joint project with Nintendo – The Duskbloods – he may return and wrap up the series in flawless fashion, much like he did before.

It’s uncertain if this event will occur as planned. Many FromSoftware enthusiasts might be wishing for it, but it’s unclear if the studio can address the issues with Elden Ring Nightreign in time before The Duskbloods is released.
