As a dedicated follower of TLC and Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins, I have always admired her strength and resilience, both as a musician and a survivor. Her recent health struggles serve as yet another testament to her indomitable spirit.
Tionne T-Boz Watkins from the music trio TLC has shared a medical update that led to postponements of some of their performances. Rumors about her health situation have been circulating online, and she decided to speak openly about it by sharing a video on her social media platforms.
On August 24th, the formal Instagram account of the group posted an announcement through stories, disclosing that Watkins had endured severe symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, and acute stomach pains following their August 22nd performance in Toledo, Ohio. Consequently, TLC was forced to postpone several upcoming concerts.
On August 28th, Watkins posted a video on Instagram, discussing her medical diagnosis in depth. In the beginning of the video, she expressed appreciation towards those who offered their love and prayers. She admitted that she typically keeps her personal struggles private, but due to cancelled concerts, she felt it was necessary to address the issue openly.
Instead of feeling comfortable with the extensive information being disclosed, she found herself uneasy due to her preference for maintaining privacy in her personal life and avoiding public attention. She made it clear that her health problems were unrelated to constipation or the medication Ozempic, as she wasn’t using it, and not every celebrity uses it. Watkins expressed her disappointment at people’s lack of understanding concerning her situation.
The singer from TLC made it clear that people have unfortunately passed away due to a health problem she’s been managing. This condition seems to particularly affect women who have undergone a c-section, had fibroid cysts, or any abdominal surgery. She emphasized that the source of this issue wasn’t linked to anything she ingested or her internal intestines, but rather to scar tissue on the exterior of her body.
Previously performed surgery, 24 years ago, resulted in scar tissue buildup within Watkins. This scar tissue, due to the movements of the small intestine, entangled itself and consequently led to the blockage.
The performer underscored that her life was marked by hardship and uncertainty about the misconception that her medical problems didn’t stem from sickle cell disease. Additionally, she disclosed that she’s been hospitalized frequently due to sickle cell, but prefers to keep her condition hidden rather than making it public knowledge when she’s unwell. Watkins urged people to refrain from linking her with sickle cell, as she is a multifaceted individual beyond her illness. She emphasized that not every event in her life is linked to sickle cell, and it’s crucial to acknowledge this distinction.
The performer titled their post, expressing, “I’d be happy to share some knowledge since there are so many new physicians around, and it seems like you all know a lot about everything yet nothing… Stay Well and Healthy …. I’ll catch up with you all soon at the rescheduled shows… I’m doing well and grateful!!!”.
