‘I’m Done’: Quentin Tarantino Says He Doesn’t Want To Watch Toy Story 4 Because Of THIS Reason

As a devoted cinephile with a penchant for masterful storytelling and unparalleled cinematic vision, I wholeheartedly resonate with Quentin Tarantino‘s sentiments regarding the fourth installment of Toy Story. Having been captivated by his own trilogies, such as Reservoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction, and Inglourious Basterds, I understand his struggle to find a satisfying conclusion in a beloved franchise like Toy Story.

Renowned movie maker Quentin Tarantino himself has chosen not to watch the fourth edition of Toy Story, explaining his reasons openly as to why he lacks interest in viewing this particular installment of the well-known film series.

As a devoted admirer, I’ve learned that, as shared by Deadline, the esteemed director of Once Upon A Time In Hollywood recently engaged in an enlightening conversation with Bill Maher on his Club Random podcast. In this discussion, Tarantino candidly discussed the challenges he faces when trying to bring a satisfying conclusion to a trilogy, ensuring that the viewers are left content and fulfilled.

Tarantino mentioned that the only trilogy he found truly successful was Clint Eastwood’s spaghetti western series – A Fistful of Dollars, For A Few More Dollars, and The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly. When it comes to animated films, however, he doesn’t watch them all, but he is a huge admirer of the Toy Story trilogy.

According to the Oscar-winning filmmaker, the key factor behind the popularity of the mentioned films is that they were all directed by one person – Sergio Leone – ensuring a consistent vision throughout the trilogy.

He said that it did what no other trilogy has been able to achieve. The filmmaker continued, “The first movie is terrific, but the second movie is so great and takes the whole idea to such a bigger canvas that it obliterates the first one.”

Tarantino went on to explain, “Then, the third character repeats the action on the second one, but this usually doesn’t occur. There’s often a significant gap between the first and second actions, and the third one is rarely executed.”

He mentioned that the Mad Max installments have not been able to do so. He went on to name Toy Story as well and the reason why he does not desire to watch more installments of the same.

According to Tarantino, the third Toy Story movie is simply breathtaking. He further stated that it ranks among the finest films he’s ever seen. If you’ve watched the previous two, he finds the experience of watching the third one particularly heart-wrenching.

Quentin Tarantino, the Kill Bill director, stated, “We wrapped up the story as perfectly as possible, so no, my interest is not piqued by its quality. I’ve moved on.”

Did you know? Toy Story 4 came out in 2019, and a fifth film is now being developed. During this year’s D23 Expo, Disney CEO Bob Iger announced that Andrew Stanton would be back to direct it. The movie is scheduled to hit theaters on June 19, 2026, according to recent reports.
