The studios are extending invitations nationwide for purebred golden retriever owners to try out their dogs for a role in the upcoming film, Air Bud. Interested participants simply need to navigate to the official Air Bud website to join the search. Even if your dog doesn’t get selected, each submission will be entered into a drawing for various prizes, such as Air Bud jerseys and autographed movie memorabilia. There’s even a chance to win a trip to the Hollywood premiere. The film is set to release in summer 2026, so they don’t anticipate it taking the production team too long to discover their next four-legged star.
Here’s the official synopsis for Air Bud Returns:
In “Air Bud Returns,” 12-year-old Jacob harbored dreams of becoming a prominent basketball player, but after his father’s demise, these aspirations seemed unattainable. However, everything alters when he and his mother relocate to their father’s childhood home in Fernfield. There, they find an old VHS copy of the “Air Bud” movie among his father’s possessions, and Jacob encounters a forlorn golden retriever whom he names Buddy. As they embark on a healing journey together, they form a team of underdogs, aiming for a championship. Throughout this adventure, they learn to play with heart, trust in each other, and never shy away from taking chances!
In this new movie, “Air Bud Returns,” it’s like the original “Air Bud” film is a movie that exists within the storyline. Instead of figuring out how a dog from the ’90s could have lived for three decades, we can just enjoy the tale. Could American kids get excited about “Air Bud” once more? We’ll see when the movie comes out next summer.
