Ice T Rejects Fan Claim that ‘Law & Order: SVU’ Has Gone Woke

As a long-time fan of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit (SVU), I can confidently say that this show has been a staple in my television viewing for over two decades now, and it continues to impress me with its gritty portrayal of the darker side of humanity. The recent accusations by some “fans” that SVU has gone woke seem to be misguided at best, as the show has always been a trailblazer in addressing important social issues such as sexual violence.

When it comes to police procedural dramas, you won’t find a better choice than the enduring Law & Order franchise, one that has made history with its longevity. This franchise first debuted in the 90s with the self-titled series and has since spawned numerous offshoots, some of which have seen great success, while others have not fared as well.

Among these offshoots, “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” stands out as the undeniably most prosperous, given it’s currently airing its 26th season. This longevity is particularly impressive in an industry where series often don’t exceed 4-5 seasons, even if they are exceptionally well-made (and “SVU” consistently delivers more episodes than most).

However, similar to numerous other series, SVU has faced criticism from certain self-proclaimed fans, alleging that the show has become too politically correct or “woke.” In a lively Twitter conversation, musician and actor Ice T dismissed this notion and humorously criticized the fan who raised the question about SVU‘s supposed shift towards being “woke.”

The 26th season of “Law & Order: SVU” is currently being filmed, and it’s set to air again soon. Notable actor Ice T will reprise his role as detective Odafin “Fin” Tutuola, extending his character’s unbroken run in the series to a record length. In anticipation of this, Ice T was recently asked on Twitter:

Did they write SVU back to normal yet? It started to go woke

To my amazement, I, a devoted fan, found myself fortunate enough to receive a response from the one and only Ice-T himself. In true Ice-T fashion, he shared these enlightening words with me.

What the F is Woke? lol Like I give a Fuck.

— ICE T (@FINALLEVEL) August 27, 2024

Ice T made it clear that he didn’t agree with the idea that SVU had become too progressive or “woke,” and even if it had, he appeared unbothered by it. As a show, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit is renowned for addressing the topic of sexual violence, making it one of the most pioneering series in American television history.

These accusations don’t hold much weight in this context, and Ice T gave us an ideal response to the query – so, let’s focus on appreciating the performance instead!
