As a dedicated fan and someone who had the privilege of working with the late Matthew Perry on the iconic show “Friends,” I can’t help but look back at those moments with a sense of nostalgia and admiration. I still remember the excitement I felt when Perry, who was already an established star, approached me to play Erica in the final season. He had seen my work in “Lost in Translation” and believed that I could bring something special to the show.
Anna Faris cherishes each instance of her collaboration with Matthew Perry during Friends’ last season. The actress, known for her roles in My Spy: The Eternal City and Mom, recalls these rare yet impactful interactions with a warm smile. Sadly, Perry passed away unexpectedly in October at the age of 54.
Anna Faris portrayed Erica, a soon-to-be mother whose twins were adopted by Chandler (Perry) and Monica (Cox). Impressively, Perry extended an invitation for Faris to join the hit series based on his admiration of her performance in “Lost in Translation.” Gratified by the offer, Anna Faris shared her excitement about becoming a part of this renowned TV show.
At that point, my perception was different. He mentioned having watched me in “Lost in Translation” and found me impressive. I primarily collaborated with Courteney and Matthew during the project, and their kindness left me utterly amazed.
A season of tearful goodbyes
During the last season of Friends, the actors went through numerous emotional moments while filming their farewell episodes. As stated by Courtney Cox (Faris), there were tears all around as they brought the beloved series to a close. They became quite emotional as they concluded the production.
During that period, Faris vividly remembers the significance of her part, particularly when she had to speak on the widely-watched series. In her own words, “It was quite a daunting thought. I mean, delivering lines for Friends, the last season? Friends?”
Treasured moments
Faris is touched and proud, despite her brief appearance on the beloved show, which continues to garner fan enthusiasm globally. She fondly recalls the kindness of her fellow cast members and the joy she experienced during the production of their final episodes.
She expressed a desire to have known the person better, adding, “It’s humbling for me to discuss someone I only had limited encounters with. Yet, these interactions left a profound impact on me, and I feel privileged to be involved in this production.”
You can currently stream “My Spy: The Eternal City” on Amazon Prime Video. For those who prefer “Friends,” the entire series is available on Max.
