Tina Fey is well-known for her time on the popular television show Saturday Night Live. Despite leaving the program, she remains a bright star in the acting world and recently reappeared as a guest on SNL50: A Celebration Beyond Saturday Night.
For those who might be unaware, “SNL50: Beyond Saturday Night,” produced by Peacock, is a four-episode documentary series. In this series, the actress who starred in “Date Night” shares her personal accounts of working on the iconic sketch comedy program.
Initially venting her feelings, Tina Fey made it clear that the show she works on thrives on competition. The actress who voices Megamind disclosed that despite everyone at SNL being united by a single objective, “It’s structured around competition. It’s all about saying, ‘I’ll see you at the table.’
Reflecting back on her tenure as head writer, Tina Fey revealed that upon arriving from Chicago, she was prepared to take on any challenge. However, she found the rewriting process particularly grueling because the team seemed rather grumpy.
Looking back on my tenure as headwriter in 1997, I can’t help but remember the amusing jabs thrown at our show. People would chuckle “sketch by sketch,” often taking a playful swipe at our very title itself.
The actress, who has been featured in the recent mystery thriller A Haunting in Venice alongside Kenneth Branagh and other renowned actors, commented, “While I was away, it felt as though the writers’ room was making poor decisions with the script, and that seemed to be simply part of the process.
Fey expressed doubts about whether the same cultural vibe persists among the current team working on the show. Yet, she suggested that if they’ve moved away from the old way of doing things, Saturday Night Live might want to reconsider going back to that style.
In 2000, Tina Fey made her debut with Saturday Night Live, and she said goodbye to the show’s troupe in 2006. As of now, you can stream SNL50: Beyond Saturday Night on Peacock.
