As an ardent fan who has followed Collin Gosselin‘s journey since his days on Kate Plus 8, it is heartbreaking to witness his struggles and the latest turn of events in his life. It’s hard not to feel empathy for a young man who, despite reaching the final stages of becoming a US Marine, was discharged due to circumstances beyond his control – being institutionalized at some point in his life.
20-year-old Colin Gosselin, well-known for his role in the Kate Plus 8 reality series, recently disclosed the reasons behind his discharge from the Marines, even though he had reached the final phase of training and graduated.
According to People Magazine, the 20-year-old confided in Entertainment Tonight that he would no longer be enlisting in the U.S. military. He explained that he had been released from service. The reality TV personality revealed that he was nearing completion of his training and graduation, but upon reviewing his documents, it was discovered that he had spent some time institutionalized during his life.
He noted that no further explanation is required; their institutionalization alone serves as a sufficient reason for releasing them. Later on, Collin expressed his intention to contest the verdict since his aspirations were limited, with becoming a “United States Marine” being at the pinnacle.
Speaking as an ardent fan, I’d rephrase it like this: “I confessed that I was clueless about what was unfolding and had no idea where I was headed. To put it bluntly, I’ve never been so petrified in my entire life. Moreover, I admitted that I hadn’t bid farewell to my kin before venturing forth.”
Speaking about his mom Kate, Colline asserted that she came by just once for half an hour. He remarked, “During our brief interaction, all she did was scold me and say I had ruined our family,” further stating, “Our lives were constantly under public scrutiny… It’s my belief that I was sent away to safeguard her image.”
To those unfamiliar, the 20-year-old’s parents, Jon, and his former spouse (who is now referred to as Kate), welcomed not just twins, Cara and Madelyn, but also sextuplets – Collin, Alexis, Aaden, Leah, Joel, and Hannah. Unfortunately, their marriage ended in divorce in 2009, with Kate being granted custody of the children. Subsequently, Collin was placed in an institution due to his “unforeseen and aggressive behavior,” as reported by People magazine.
In 2019, Kate shared with a media outlet that Collin had specific requirements or challenges. However, in an interview with ET in 2022, Collin stated that it was unfortunate how Kate characterized him as an individual. He further mentioned that he did not observe those characteristics and doesn’t believe anyone else sees him in that light. He explained, “I don’t see those things, and I don’t think anybody else sees those things either. If that’s how she perceives me, then it’s her perspective.”
