As a lifestyle expert, I must say it’s truly heartening to witness the transformative journey of Dave Bautista. His courage to voice his aspirations and question the industry norms has not only opened doors for him but also sparked a much-needed conversation about the stereotypes that persist in Hollywood.
Dave Bautista has landed a role in an upcoming romantic comedy following his remarks on not being considered for softer roles. In an interview with Page Six back in January, the actor expressed his disappointment at not having had the chance to portray characters typically found in love stories like those seen in rom-coms.
Additionally, Bautista expressed doubts about his appearance and inquired if there was anything undesirable about him. Meanwhile, it’s been a year since, and the actor has verified that he will be involved in an upcoming romance film. He mentioned that he received numerous calls offering roles, and he had to sift through the possibilities.
While promoting his latest movie, The Killer’s Game, Bautista shared with The Hollywood Reporter that his viral remarks ignited a lively discussion, followed by an increase in incoming phone calls.
As a lifestyle expert looking back on things, I recently found myself reminiscing about a moment when I shared a few humorous ideas and, surprisingly, the phone started ringing non-stop! Now, I’m excitedly working on a couple of projects that are shaping up to be downright hilarious. In fact, I can’t help but feel like life itself is unfolding into a full-blown romantic comedy – not an action-romantic comedy, mind you, but the classic, heartwarming kind.
In terms of romantic scenes, the actor disclosed the nuances of his character from The Killer’s Game, where he had a brief on-screen romance with co-star Sofia Boutella. This is actually the first time in Bautista’s acting career that he will depict a leading role featuring a love interest.
Regarding his part in the film, the actor from Guardians of the Galaxy admitted he had some reservations about accepting the role at first. He explained, “It made me anxious; I’m hoping people will appreciate it, still feeling a bit self-conscious. It was a challenge that appealed to me, and so I decided to take it on.
He continued by stating, “A few years back, I made a decision that I should move away from playing supporting characters and instead aim for leading roles. If necessary, I would even create my own leading roles.
Bautista shared, “It’s ironic – I aspire to become a more prominent figure so I can create smaller, more personal films, which are my passion. However, the quickest way to achieve this is by becoming a commodity myself; when you’re a big star, you’re treated as a commodity.
Concerning the romantic comedy, the actor hasn’t revealed any specifics about it yet. However, in his upcoming action film, the actor is set to engage in combat with hitmen, all while playing the role of an assassin himself.
The Killer’s Game will hit theaters on September 13.
