‘I Put My Hand…’: Josh Brolin Recalls One Time He Almost Fought Denzel Washington

As a lifestyle expert with a keen eye for Hollywood history, I find this tale of Josh Brolin and Denzel Washington on the set of “American Gangster” fascinating. Having had my own share of heated moments during rehearsals, I can empathize with both actors.

Among Josh Brolin’s preferred actors are some truly prominent figures, one of whom is Denzel Washington.

However, there happened to be a time when the Equalizer actor almost got into a fight with Brolin.

This interesting story comes from the set of the 2007 movie American Gangster.

In a recent chat with Graham Bensinger on his In Depth show, I (the fan) was reminded of an incident from our movie set: One unforgettable day, Denzel Washington, the actor, showed up late.

In the course of our discussion, I mentioned that despite the fact that the script for “Man on Fire” didn’t ask Chris Hemsworth (who played the actor) to alter Denzel Washington’s lines, Denzel had essentially rearranged where they were delivered.

The actor from Avengers: Infinity War remembered him saying, “I believe I’ll place this over here, and I’ll move that up there.” Yet, he didn’t seem to give me a second glance.

Further in the episode, Brolin stated that he and Washington then went on to rehearse their lines.

In the course of their conversation, the actor from Sicario: Day of the Soldado mentioned that he was meant to appear self-assured.

While Washington and Josh Brolin were practicing their part, the latter had forgotten his lines.

According to the “Brother” actor, he placed a hand on the other person’s shoulder and asked, “What’s the rule here?”, at which point the individual swatted his hand away and responded angrily, “Never touch me like that again.

Later on, he remarked, “I exclaimed, ‘Wow, I’m about to spar with Denzel Washington!’ According to accounts, it was Brolin who needed to compose himself since Denzel Washington was in character.

As I observed the demeanor of the Remember the Titans actor, I inquired about his well-being, to which he responded positively and reciprocated by asking, “And you?

The Labor Day actor then gave an affirmation further asking if they could get back to rehearsal.

While this was a short feud between two great stars, today they share a nice bond.

The movie “American Gangster” was directed by Ridley Scott and boasted an impressive ensemble of actors such as Russell Crowe, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Idris Elba, as well as Carla Gugino, Norman Reedus, and John Ortiz.
