‘I Live In The Bubble Of My Own’ : Amandla Stenberg Reacts To The Acolyte Series Cancellation; Says THIS

As a dedicated follower who has had the privilege of witnessing the journey of Amandla Stenberg in The Acolyte, I can’t help but feel a profound sense of empathy and admiration for her resilience and eloquence in the face of adversity. Her experience is a stark reminder of the harsh reality that exists beyond the silver screen, where bigotry and prejudice lurk in the shadows, waiting to pounce on any opportunity to spread their venom.

Actress Amandla Stenberg, known for her role in The Acolyte, expressed her dismay over the show’s cancellation following its first season. She admitted that, considering the severe backlash and intolerance the cast experienced online, she wasn’t entirely surprised by this outcome.

As a loyal fan following the Star Wars series, I myself recently addressed some negativity that I encountered on my Instagram Stories. This wave of vitriolic, biased, hateful, and ominous speech was aimed not just at me, but at the entire cast, even before the show made its debut.

As reported by Stenberg, the multicultural cast of the show, comprising South Korean actor Lee Jung-Jae and British-Spanish actress Dafne Keen, encountered criticism due to their ethnicities, a situation that left her greatly impacted.

She stated, “I’ll be completely honest, and it won’t come as a surprise to me given my personal environment. However, for those unaware, there has been a wave of harsh criticism we’ve experienced ever since the idea for the show was first proposed.”

Stenberg stated, “Nobody had ever laid eyes on it before. This was when we began to face an intense wave of what I’d describe as overly conservative intolerance, harsh criticism, prejudice, hostility, and abusive speech directed towards us.”

In the Star Wars universe, Leslye Headland’s series titled “The Acolyte” was established around a century prior to “The Phantom Menace.” Although it received generally favorable reviews, the show encountered significant online criticism that ultimately contributed to its termination on August 19. Regrettably, no further episodes were scheduled, leaving several season one plot threads unresolved.

The actress from “The Darkest Minds” expressed that the role stirred up many social and political issues, as well as personal values. It made her question how she should react to hatred, navigate through the world, and ultimately led her to believe that in order to stay true to herself, she needed to speak out, even while working for Disney and within the Star Wars franchise.

In a recent Instagram post, Stenberg acknowledged and appreciated the backing of the LucasFilm team and Headland, commending their hard work. She further pondered over how the present polarized environment, fueled by echo chambers and biases, might have played a role in the show’s demise.

Lee Jung-jae, one of the show’s actors, showed astonishment at the series being cancelled, even though his character met his end in the final episode. He praised Headland’s writing and direction, expressing excitement about the possibility of a second season under her guidance.

1. Season 1 of The Acolyte concluded in July. However, in August, Lucasfilm declared that the show would not return for another season, despite several unresolved plotlines. In the series, Stenberg portrayed twins Osha and Mae, whose roles differed significantly within the narrative. The cancellation decision was influenced by a combination of fan feedback and dwindling viewership numbers.
