‘I Know It Quite Well’: Queen Camilla Shares Personal Story During Swindon Hospital Visit, Reveals Family Connection

On January 21, 2025, Queen Camilla shared a personal link to the Great Western Hospital in Swindon during an official visit where she inaugurated their new Emergency Department. This was followed by her exploration of Prospect Hospice, a significant milestone marking its 45th anniversary.

In her unplanned speech at the recently built 41 million USD emergency care center, the 77-year-old Queen reminisced about a deeply personal event when she spoke of delivering her daughter Laura close to five decades back, right here in this same hospital. She then acknowledged and praised the outstanding efforts of the staff and volunteers whose diligent work has transformed this hospital into a beacon for urgent care.

As reported by the Daily Mail, she expressed, “I pondered it over, and it’s been approximately 47 years since I last visited this hospital – that was when I gave birth to my daughter. However, I felt compelled to praise everyone responsible for transforming this place into such a marvel, as well as those currently working here.

The queen shared with the staff her family’s long-standing relationship with the hospital, mentioning that her grandchildren have received care there. She jokingly added, “I frequently receive photos saying, ‘Can you guess where I am? Back in the Emergency Room in Swindon,’ which shows how well I know this place.” Her remarks underscored her appreciation for the hospital’s significant role within the community.

Additionally, the monarch interacted with employees, patients, and helpers, expressing gratitude for their commitment to health services. Following her hospital visit, she took part in numerous celebrations at Prospect Hospice, serving as its president, and acknowledged its 45 years of dedicated service.

Before marrying King Charles in the year 2005, Queen Camilla had been previously married to Andrew Parker Bowles since 1973. Together they welcomed two children – Tom born in 1974 and Laura born in 1978. Their descendants include Lola (Tom’s daughter) and Freddy (Tom’s son), who were born from Tom’s past relationship with Sara Buys, as well as Eliza (Laura’s daughter) and twins Gus and Louis, whom Laura shares with her husband Harry Lopes.
