‘I Have SEBO in My Small Intestine’: Selena Gomez Claps Back at Body-Shaming After Red Carpet Appearance

As a devoted fan of Selena Gomez, I have always admired her resilience and strength, especially in the face of adversity. The recent incident at the Emilia Perez premiere was yet another reminder of the harsh reality that celebrities often face – the relentless barrage of hate comments, particularly those targeting their bodies.

As social media platforms grow more popular, stars and trendsetters like Selena Gomez frequently encounter negative remarks that focus on their physical appearance. Unfortunately, this was also the case in recent events.

As reported by BuzzFeed, Emilia Perez’s newest film had its debut at the American French Film Festival in Los Angeles just recently. Consequently, the film’s star, Gomez, graced the event with her presence for the movie screening as well.

On the red carpet, the actress dazzled in a timeless, black gown with ruching, and it was hard to miss her placing her hands subtly on her midriff as she struck poses.

Online, some individuals suggested that her hand positioning might have been deliberate. It’s said they thought it could be a reaction to the body-shaming remarks she experienced at another occasion, as reported by the source.

The conversation on social media, notably on TikTok, persisted following the spread of a fresh viral video featuring the artist. A TikTok user commented, seemingly in reference to her appearance at the Wizards Beyond Waverly Place premiere on Monday, “It’s likely she saw all those offensive comments about her body yesterday, and today she’s concealing her midriff.

It was sad to hear that someone is constantly bullied for various reasons, which is often the case online where many people seem to be critical or negative towards others. The video in question has reportedly been taken down since then.

In her own words, the singer who is known for “Calm Down” spoke directly about the matter, explaining, “This really upsets me. I’ve been diagnosed with Small Intestine Bacterial Overgrowth (SIBO). It can cause flare-ups at times. I don’t place value on my appearance based on societal ideals of a ‘stick figure.’ I simply don’t possess that physique. Period. I refuse to be labeled as a victim. I am, after all, just human.

For those not in the know, SIBO refers to small intestinal bacterial overgrowth. This condition arises when the movement of food and waste within the digestive system slows down, leading to an environment favorable for bacterial growth. People with this condition may experience symptoms like stomach pain, bloating, and malnutrition, as suggested by the Mayo Clinic.

Regardless of facing negative remarks, the singer has been creating a stir within the industry. It’s said that she could potentially be nominated for an Academy Award due to her performance as Emilia Perez. Moreover, the movie was showcased at this year’s Cannes Film Festival and garnered a prolonged 11-minute standing ovation.
