‘I Had The Honor…’: Rachel Zegler Remembers Assistant Director Adam Somner, Who Recently Passed Away Of Cancer

As a devoted fan and admirer of Adam Somner’s exceptional work, I find myself deeply moved by the profound impact he had on the lives of those fortunate enough to cross his path. His story is a testament to the power of grace, love, and mentorship in shaping careers and touching hearts.

Adam Somner, well-known for his role as an assistant director, sadly passed away from cancer before the Thanksgiving holiday. In remembrance of this exceptional individual, Rachel Zegler honored him on social media by expressing her feelings.

As a lifestyle expert, I’d rephrase it as follows: “At seventeen, I was privileged to work alongside Adam Somner on West Side Story. In our collaboration, he showed me not just grace but also boundless love. He was my pillar, always encouraging me, preventing me from tripping up during my early steps into the world of filmmaking.

In recollection, the Shazam! Fury of the Gods actress expressed her confidence, stating that she couldn’t be under better guidance.

At the same time, Rachel Zegler pointed out that landing roles in Steven Spielberg’s West Side Story, together with Adam Somner, significantly advanced her career within the Hollywood movie business.

If you’re not aware, the musician behind Nothing You Can Take From Me went on to appear in various other films. For instance, he was featured in The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes and in a DCEU production. Coming up next for Rachel Zegler is her role as Snow White alongside Gal Gadot in the live-action Disney remake, which is slated to premiere in 2025.

In her social media post, the singer from Pure As The Driven Snow expressed simply that she, like many others who collaborated with him, had deep affection for him.

In a statement, the artist behind “I Feel Pretty” described Adam Somner as both exceptionally skilled and quite eccentric, adding that he excelled in his profession.

In her blog post, the artist who sang “Nothing You Can Take From Me” shared a monochrome video featuring her and Somner in an embrace.

She continued by saying that things are not always fair, as Adam Somner won’t be able to do more of his talented work. Giving her love to all the family members of the late assistant director, she concluded her post.

On November 27, 2024, Adam Somner, a five-time Academy Award nominee for production, tragically lost his life at the age of 57. According to recent news, he succumbed to anaplastic thyroid cancer.
