As a dedicated fan of The White Lotus, I can only imagine the thrill and pressure Natasha Rothwell must have felt when she returned to the set for its third season. Having already made her mark as Belinda in the first season, stepping back into those shoes had to be a daunting task, especially considering the all-star cast that joined this time around.
Natasha Rothwell experienced a storm of feelings upon her return for the eagerly awaited third season of The White Lotus. Rothwell, who portrayed Belinda, the spa manager from the first season, is the sole cast member returning for season 3.
Although she was well-known on the filming location, the actress confessed that she felt like an impostor while collaborating with a group of accomplished actors whom she had always respected and looked up to.
Rothwell expressed that these individuals she admired greatly during her childhood were those she worked alongside, which in turn triggered feelings of self-doubt and inadequacy, or what is commonly known as imposter syndrome. She further explained that being around Monaghan and Posey made her question her place on the set.
In my professional opinion, forming relationships on the White Lotus set is remarkably similar to what I experienced during season one.
Rothwell admitted she felt apprehensive about taking on the part of Belinda again. Even though she was well-acquainted with the role, getting back into character initially proved challenging for her. In a conversation, Rothwell revealed an understandable comparison shared by actress Carrie Coon: it’s like putting on an old pair of gloves that seem to fit perfectly, but you need a moment to remember which hand goes where.
After putting in some work, Rothwell once again aligned with Belinda’s perspective. Yet, reclaiming that role wasn’t her sole hurdle during season three; other challenges arose as well.
Rothwell found herself grappling with self-doubt when working alongside a star-studded cast in The White Lotus’s third season. Familiar faces like Parker Posey, Michelle Monaghan, and Carrie Coon were actors Rothwell had long admired, making the shared screen time both thrilling and nerve-wracking for the 43-year-old actress.
Instead of directly asking whether Monaghan, the moderator for Rothwell’s recent Hulu series How to Die Alone, would comply with her request, she had informed her team that she was Michelle Monaghan. Remarkably, Monaghan consented immediately.
During the production of the show, Rothwell emphasized the deep connections that developed among the actors. She referred to the atmosphere on the White Lotel set as exceptionally special, commending Mike White for fostering such strong relationships.
Rothwell mentioned that she has maintained contact with several of her castmates, such as Leslie Bibb, who aided her in promoting “How to Die Alone” recently. Bibb even produced some videos specifically for Rothwell, expressing her happiness to be involved.
