‘I Ground Myself’: Selena Gomez Reveals How She Copes Up With Her Mental And Physical Health

As a lifestyle expert, I admire Selena Gomez‘s courage and vulnerability in sharing her personal journey with mental health struggles and physical illnesses. Her resilience and determination to seek help and find healing mechanisms are truly inspiring. It is commendable how she has transformed her experiences into lessons for others, encouraging open conversations about mental health and self-care.

Selena Gomez, known for her candidness, frequently discusses her personal life in depth. She’s been open about battling issues with both her physical and mental wellbeing. Now, Gomez shares that she is currently receiving the right medication and has discovered effective ways to cope.

During an interview with Vanity Fair for their October edition, the multi-talented individual shared some strategies she uses to remain stable during challenging times.

The 32-year-old individual, who has both bipolar disorder and lupus, shared that she finds comfort and healing by immersing herself in cool water and employing space heaters as part of her coping strategy.

Gomez shared with the media, “I keep telling myself that I’m alright. I take a brief moment to collect myself. ‘Where do I find myself? I’m seated in the office. Everyone I care about is out there. There’s food available. I can have something to eat or even take a short nap before I go.’ I bring myself back to the present. Now that I’m well-medicated, I’m prepared for whatever comes my way.

Since being diagnosed with lupus in 2015, Gomez has been vocal about her battles with this condition. In April 2020, she shared that she also has bipolar disorder during Miley Cyrus’s Instagram Live show called Bright Minded. Since then, she has been candid about the ups and downs she experiences due to these health issues.

In my professional opinion, as a lifestyle advisor, I’ve observed that some individuals, like this remarkable singer, may feel frustrated when they are labeled as ‘victims’ due to their mental health struggles. These battles, such as panic attacks, persistent anxiety, and crushing depressive episodes, are aspects of their journey, not defining labels. They are warriors fighting courageously, not victims succumbing to the storm.

In the interview, she additionally shared her plans for starting a family soon. Yet, Gomez appeared emotional when she explained that due to certain health complications, she is unable to bear her own children.

The performer disclosed, “I’ve never shared this before, but sadly, due to numerous health complications, I’m unable to bear children on my own. Carrying a child would pose significant risks to both myself and the baby. It was something I had to mourn for some time.
