In Avowed, my best friend isn’t a person, but rather a 2.5 feet long metal object that’s perpetually ablaze. It goes by the name Last Light of Day, and so far, I haven’t encountered any creature in the Living Lands that it can’t overpower. Interestingly enough, I stumbled upon it within the first 4 hours of gameplay.

Beware! Light Avowed quest spoilers ahead. If you want to go in completely fresh, read no further.

At dusk, the Unique One-Handed Sword, “Last Light of Day,” stands out. It boasts two exceptional enchantments: one that revitalizes you upon defeating an adversary, and another that infuses each strike with fiery damage (naturally). This sword offers a substantial edge in the early stages of play, making it advisable to swiftly navigate towards it as soon as possible. I wholeheartedly endorse this action.

At the conclusion of the Dawntreader quest, which you’ll undertake at the Aedyran Embassy upon reaching the city of Paradis (as part of the main storyline), you can obtain Last Light of Day. Once outside, look for a character named Ofryc who will task you with locating a missing expedition and provide you with its last known location.

You can choose to go directly to the destination to start the quest as well. You’ll locate it in the northern part of Dawnshore, beyond the Northern Farms Beacon, specifically at a spot known as Pilgrim’s Path.

I’ll keep my comments brief about the adventure itself – it’s an exciting labyrinth with unexpected surprises, making it worth exploring without spoilers. Here’s a tip: since the sword is linked to the Oracle, if by chance this character meets an untimely end during the quest, you might be able to retrieve it from his remains…

In the early game battles of Avowed, Last Light of Day will undoubtedly provide an advantage. This weapon can prove useful not just in the beginning, but also throughout your journey deep into the game and until the very end if you choose so. Similar to other weapons in the game, Last Light of Day can be improved through multiple tiers of quality, and its health-stealing enchantment can be amplified or replaced with a beneficial parry bonus.

The Living Lands are teeming with strange plant and fungus creatures that are vulnerable to fire, making Last Light of Day an invaluable asset. Let’s face it: there aren’t many weapons as cool as a flaming sword!
