‘I Gotta Stop’: Neil Young Explains Why He Chose To Cancel His Crazy Horse Tour

As a long-time devotee of Neil Young’s mesmerizing performances, I must say his recent decision to suspend his tour has left me with a mix of emotions. The thought that the man who gave us classics like “Heart of Gold” and “Old Man” would step away from the stage is almost unbearable. Yet, as someone who’s been following his career since the ’60s, I understand the weight of experience that comes with age.

As a lifestyle expert, I’d put it this way: Neil Young, renowned for his electrifying stage presence, stunned his devoted fans by revealing he wouldn’t be carrying on with his tour about two months ago. The iconic singer of For What It’s Worth made this sad announcement on his official website, explaining that the rest of the tour with his band, the Love Earth Tour, had been called off.

While he had mentioned the reason for canceling the tour was illness that the performers were facing, Young recently came up with a more detailed explanation. Taking to his subreddit, the Heart of Gold singer, who is 78 years old, addressed his fans in a livestream.

To his dedicated fans, Young clarified that some artists on the tour were experiencing illnesses. In his announcement, the musician also disclosed his own reasons behind cancelling the tour personally.

One day, as the artist was suddenly awoken on a bus, they found themselves saying, “This is too much; I need to quit.”

Later, he reminisced during the broadcast, as he pondered returning to the stage, he experienced nausea, and his body signaled it was time for rest or to quit. Consequently, he decided to heed his body’s advice instead.

The renowned artist expressed that, despite the challenges encountered during the event’s cancellation, it ultimately proved beneficial to all parties involved. He chose to voice this opinion since he felt he wouldn’t have been able to deliver the high-energy performance his fans expected and rightfully desired at the concert.

During the livestream, Neil Young continued by saying, “The discussion then moved to legal issues, ‘This is yours, that is theirs. People bought tickets, they did one thing, they did another.'”

Yet, he emphasized that his deepest convictions lie with music and mastering its craft, underscoring its significant role in his life and the appreciation it receives from his listeners.

In his speech, the singer of “Teach Your Children” continued, expressing that when he lacks the vitality and excitement to entertain on stage, it’s not appropriate for him to take the stage at all. He also hinted that his body was indicating he needed a brief rest.

As he spoke to his companions about his decision to call off the tour, he shared some significant news with them. “I’m beginning to think I might be ready for another round,” Young expressed, emphasizing how wonderful the feeling was.

As a die-hard enthusiast, let me share some exciting news: Young himself hinted that although not every member is back on board, the legendary band, Crazy Horse, is gearing up for a comeback performance! Can’t wait to rock out with them again!
