As an ardent fan of Nicole Kidman, I have always admired her versatility and dedication to her craft. But after reading about her experiences while shooting Babygirl, my admiration for her has soared to new heights. The emotional intensity she poured into this role is truly commendable.
Nicole Kidman shared that she experienced a sense of vulnerability while filming the upcoming adult-themed suspense movie, Babygirl, produced by A24.
In a conversation with Vanity Fair a week prior to its debut at the Venice Film Festival, the actress (now 57) shared that the role had an intense emotional impact on her.
According to Kidman, this role proved challenging on multiple levels – not just as an actress, but as a person. She admitted that there were some particularly difficult scenes during filming that left her contemplating quitting at times. However, she found an inner strength that compelled her to keep going and complete the movie.
In my line of work, I’ve found myself at times reaching a point where I yearn for solitude, feeling an urge to step back and reconsider my involvement in certain aspects. Yet, it’s this very compulsion that propels me forward, pushing me to see things through despite the challenges. My team has been an incredible source of support during these trying moments, helping us all persevere through the demanding scenes we encounter.
Kidman expressed that she felt incredibly vulnerable as an actress, as a woman, and as a person. She needed to reapply her protective shield, questioning herself: “What have I just accomplished? Where have I been? What actions have I taken?”
She was actually horrified at the idea of the film coming out in the open for the public. She said it was like bringing out something that one would normally not show like a home video.
In this film, Babygirl stars Harris Dickinson and Antonio Banderas along with an Academy Award-winning actress, Kidman. She portrays a businesswoman at the top of her game who embarks on a passionate relationship with her younger intern, played by Dickinson. Meanwhile, Banderas plays her husband. To sum up the movie’s synopsis, “The CEO jeopardizes both her career and family as she becomes involved in an intense romance with a significantly younger colleague.”
After immersing herself deeply in the film’s emotional scenes, Nicole Kidman shared that the role left her exposed and defenseless, causing her to need a mental escape following specific takes. Despite the challenge, Kidman revealed that she hadn’t yet watched the movie.
