As a devoted cinephile who has witnessed the transformative power of cinema, I wholeheartedly applaud Cate Blanchett’s support for the reopening of the Metropolis Cinema in Beirut. Having seen the resilience of storytelling in the face of adversity, I can only imagine the hope this theater brings to a city that has endured so much.
Cate Blanchett publicly expressed her backing for the resumption of operations at the Metropolis Cinema, which is located in Beirut, Lebanon.
At the reopening ceremony, a message from Cate Blanchett was shared, per The Hollywood Reporter.
In a message, the actress who played ‘The Curious Case of Benjamin Button’ expressed her admiration and congratulations for the impressive accomplishment – the grand opening of Metropolis Cinema, right in the bustling center of Beirut.
Her words continued, indicating that the Metropolis Cinema won’t just be a venue for showcasing Lebanese cinema and nurturing new talent, but will also serve as a “symbol of resilience and cultural renaissance,” during the challenging times and circumstances from which Beirut is gradually emerging.
She added that the theater will bring together a lot of stories to life and unite communities.
Based on accounts, the previously mentioned movie theater was forced to cease operations due to the 2019 economic predicament Lebanon encountered. Subsequently, a tragic incident, a catastrophe, occurred after an explosion at Beirut’s port in the year 2020.
At this particular occasion, an explosion causing a shockwave occurred, reducing the entertainment district’s theater complex to ruins.
Additionally, the ongoing conflict between Israelis and Hezbollah for a whole year took its toll on the event hall as well. This prolonged war in Lebanon further postponed the grand opening of the Metropolis Cinema, which had initially been delayed due to the military confrontation.
For those unversed, the theater was supposed to reopen in the month of October, this year.
At the freshly opened movie theater, known as the Metropolis Cinema, you’ll find not just one but three screening spaces – two indoors and one outdoor. Additionally, this cinema complex boasts a green space equipped with a café, serving as a gathering spot for film industry professionals, artists, and avid movie enthusiasts alike.
This will be a new destination for all the movie enthusiasts, also encouraging film culture in Beirut.
