Disney revealed that Hulu will take the place of Star on Disney+ internationally, beginning October 8th. This means that instead of accessing Star content, international Disney+ subscribers will have access to Hulu’s library of shows and movies from that date onwards.
The new brand will be featured with Disney, Pixar, Star Wars, Marvel, and National Geographic in the UK and throughout the EMEA region.
This is Hulu’s first big step into international markets. It follows Disney buying out Comcast’s ownership in the U.S. version of the service, which means Disney now completely owns Hulu. Disney has announced plans to develop Hulu into a “global general entertainment brand.”
You’ll still be able to find your favorite Star shows on Hulu, including titles like High Potential, Only Murders in the Building, FX’s Alien: Earth, A Thousand Blows, Rivals, Flintoff, Grey’s Anatomy, and Modern Family. Plus, new Disney+ shows such as All’s Fair, Season 3 of The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives, and Season 2 of A Thousand Blows will now be available on Hulu as well.
In the U.S., the separate Hulu app will likely be phased out over time, but it will remain available for at least another two years, until 2026. Disney+ is now including content from Hulu, simplifying access to all your favorite shows and movies within a single application.
Disney is giving Hulu a fresh look and easier-to-use navigation soon. This update is happening before they revamp the entire Disney+ platform next year. These changes are rolling out just before Disney raises prices for its streaming services in the U.S. on October 21.
