Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine Likely Excluded from X-Men Reboot — Here’s Why Fans Will Approve

As a die-hard fan who has been following Wolverine‘s journey since the early 90s, this news about the X-Men reboot has left me both excited and puzzled. On one hand, it’s fantastic to see the X-Men finally getting their due in the MCU, and the prospect of a new storyline is exhilarating. On the other hand, Hugh Jackman as Wolverine is an iconic pairing that I’ve grown up with, and the thought of anyone else donning the adamantium claws feels like sacrilege.

The long-awaited team-up between Deadpool and Wolverine marks a significant step in the incorporation of the X-Men and mutants into the Marvel Cinematic Universe on a substantial level. Although mutants have made brief appearances in past productions, characters like Professor X and Beast from the X-Men franchise were seen in Doctor Strange’s multiverse adventures (Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness) and The Marvels, it was not until now that the X-Men were explicitly acknowledged.

Indeed, Kevin Feige has affirmed that the age of mutants is now in full swing, and a live-action X-Men reboot is underway. This new series will primarily spotlight the celebrated X-Men squad.

It has been announced that Michael Lesslie will pen the script for the upcoming X-Men movie, with rumors pointing towards a potential ‘X-Men ’97’ cast lineup including Wolverine. However, recent information from industry insider Daniel Richtman indicates that Wolverine will not feature in this film, and the rationale behind this decision is quite captivating.

As it stands, Hugh Jackman is expected to carry on embodying Wolverine following the Secret Wars, which seems to rule out the possibility of a newer actor taking up the role for now.

According to reports, the upcoming X-MEN reboot from Marvel Studios won’t feature Wolverine. The reason being that Hugh Jackman will likely continue playing the role, possibly beyond ‘AVENGERS: SECRET WARS.’ (via @DanielRPK)

Hugh Jackman has portrayed Wolverine for 24 years, and Ryan Reynolds jokingly hinted that Disney might keep him in this role until he reaches age 90. It’s been buzzing around that Wolverine could have a crucial part in the upcoming “Secret Wars”, a storyline rumored to act as a soft restart for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, preserving only mutants and the Fantastic Four within the current narrative timeline. Although these whispers remain unverified, they’ve fueled fan speculation that Jackman will carry on playing Wolverine for some time ahead or until he decides to do so.

until he’s 90?

From a practical standpoint, it’s beneficial to retain Hugh, perhaps he could still serve as an Avenger, while Laura might find a place with the X-Men.

As a dedicated gamer, I’ve got to say, what made the MCU shine was its commitment to one actor, one character in a single timeline. The multiverse stuff? It’s fun for a movie, a neat way to wrap up underperforming universes, but after this epic saga, it’s time for everyone to take a break and let’s return to one continuous storyline. That’s my two cents!

If the story undergoes a complete overhaul (a total recast), then it logically fits. Otherwise, leaving Wolverine out at the beginning of a reboot seems acceptable.
