Hugh Jackman Takes Aim as Robin Hood in First Look at ‘The Death of Robin Hood’

Hugh Jackman will star in a new, more intense take on the Robin Hood story in the upcoming thriller, The Death of Robin Hood. The film is directed and written by Michael Sarnoski, and Entertainment Weekly recently shared the first images of Jackman as the legendary outlaw, offering fans a preview of this darker version of the classic tale.

After a near-fatal injury, Robin Hood must confront the repercussions of his criminal past, including acts of violence. He’s rescued by a secretive woman, launching him into a dangerous and uncertain adventure.

Hugh Jackman plays Robin Hood in this new movie, alongside Jodie Comer, Bill Skarsgård, Murray Bartlett, and Noah Jupe. The film offers a grittier, more complex look at the classic story, delving into how Robin Hood’s previous choices have affected him.

Announced in May 2024, the project reimagines the classic Robin Hood tale as a darker, more dramatic story. Hugh Jackman and Anya Comer were confirmed as stars from the beginning. A24 secured U.S. distribution rights after a competitive bidding process at the Marché du Film. In February, the cast expanded to include Bill Skarsgård, Harris Dickinson, and Jude Jupe.

Filming happened in Northern Ireland, starting in early February and finishing in late March. Reports show the production stayed on track the entire time.

The first images released by Entertainment Weekly have generated a lot of buzz, featuring Hugh Jackman as Robin Hood and suggesting the movie will be full of tension and suspense.

I’m really excited about The Death of Robin Hood! From what I’ve heard, director Sarnoski is doing something totally different with the story – a much grittier, darker take on the classic legend. It sounds like it’ll be a thrilling ride, and both longtime Robin Hood fans and thriller lovers like myself are counting down the days until it’s released. I can’t wait to see how this new version plays out.
