Hugh Jackman Reimagines Robin Hood in First Trailer for ‘The Death of Robin Hood’

A24 has released a new trailer for The Death of Robin Hood, a fresh take on the classic hero starring Hugh Jackman. This version appears to be a grittier and more intense story, suggesting Robin Hood may be portrayed as a complex, even troubled, character.

Michael Sarnoski, the director behind films like Pig and A Quiet Place: Day One, creates a dark and intriguing atmosphere in this new movie. The film draws inspiration from a 17th-century ballad called Robin Hood’s Death, making it one of the earliest known stories about the legendary hero.

The trailer suggests Hugh Jackman’s Robin Hood is a seasoned and somewhat tired hero, reminiscent of his performance in Logan. Jodie Comer plays a secretive woman who warns Robin that a young girl named Little Margaret (Faith Delaney) could be at risk. This news motivates Robin to return to a life of action, quickly leading him into trouble and danger.

The story you think you know about Robin Hood isn’t true. See the new film, THE DEATH OF ROBIN HOOD, featuring Hugh Jackman, Jodie Comer, and Bill Skarsgård. Coming soon.

The trailer offers quick glimpses of fierce and violent fighting. These moments seem to depict either Robin’s history or his current adventure, creating a dark and realistic tone for the movie. Viewers might also catch sight of Bill Skarsgård playing Little John, and there are brief appearances suggesting roles for Noah Jupe and Murray Bartlett.

I’m really intrigued by this film! It seems to be about getting older, facing up to your responsibilities, and revisiting your history – kind of like Sarnoski’s Pig, which also followed an older man pulled back into a tough situation. The trailer is great, but it leaves you wanting more, especially about what Comer’s character is really up to and what happens with the little girl. I can’t wait to find out!

A24 announced that The Death of Robin Hood will be released later this year. Starring Hugh Jackman, the film offers a new, grittier take on the familiar Robin Hood story.
