A recent interview from 2013 is making fans wonder if Hugh Jackman predicted two major upcoming Marvel movies – Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars – years ago! While promoting The Wolverine, Jackman discussed his belief that all the different Marvel characters, even those owned by separate studios, would eventually appear together in one movie. Many are now calling him “Marvel Nostradamus” (or even “Nerdstradamus”) because he seemed to foresee these events. Here’s what he said back then:
I’m hopeful that Marvel will find a way to unite their biggest heroes – the Avengers, X-Men, Spider-Man, and even Iron Man – in a single storyline. It seems like a natural progression, and I think fans would be thrilled to see it happen. I’m definitely on board with that idea!
In 2013, Marvel movies were fragmented across several studios. The Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) was gaining momentum after hits like Iron Man and The Avengers, but Sony had their own Amazing Spider-Man series with Andrew Garfield. Fox was still releasing X-Men films, with Days of Future Past on the way, and a Fantastic Four reboot (famously unsuccessful) was in production. It felt unlikely that all these characters – the Avengers, X-Men, Spider-Man, and the Fantastic Four – would ever appear together in one movie due to the complex ownership and studio agreements.
Hugh Jackman predicted years ago that the X-Men would eventually join the main Marvel Cinematic Universe, and it finally happened! Disney’s purchase of Fox and the end of Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man series created the circumstances that allowed Sony and Marvel Studios to collaborate, making Jackman’s vision a reality. While he hasn’t officially said he’ll be in upcoming films like Doomsday or Secret Wars, it’s highly likely he’ll appear in Secret Wars, and possibly both. Thanks to Hugh for essentially willing this unified Marvel Universe into existence – he deserves a bonus from Marvel for that!
