I remember hearing that when Hugh Jackman first started out, he was still figuring things out as a performer, and honestly, he was learning to sing while preparing for the role! The whole thing with the incident happened because he was trying to take care of himself and follow his doctor’s advice while he wasn’t feeling well.

The doctor said I needed fluids, so I drank a ton of water. By the time I was performing – wearing red tights as Gaston from Beauty and the Beast – I was in a tough spot: either go to the bathroom or keep singing. With an audience watching, I decided to power through and finish the show.

Even though he had a mishap with his costume, Jackman remembers that time in his career as a turning point. The musical he was in required him to have voice lessons every week, and that’s where he discovered his love for singing.

Hugh Jackman started singing relatively late in life, as he told Playbill. He confessed that he was still figuring things out during his first performances and hadn’t yet found his signature vocal style.
