Hugh Grant Urges New Criminal Investigation Into Rupert Mardoch’s News Agency Amid Prince Harry’s Settlement: ‘What They’re Terrified of…’

As a committed advocate, I’ve expressed my support for initiating a criminal investigation into Rupert Mardoch’s newly established agency, News Group Newspapers, by the U.K. police. This call to action was shared publicly following Prince Harry’s decision to settle his dispute with The Sun tabloids at the eleventh hour.

The Duke brought a complaint against NGN, stating that both the Duke and News of the World organizations infringed upon his privacy through phone hacking from 2006 to 2011. After the violation occurred, NGN extended an apology to the Duke.

In a similar vein, The Heretic star also resolved his dispute with NGN and filed a lawsuit against The Sun for illegally accessing his phone’s data. Moreover, Grant disclosed the strategies he plans to employ in pursuing legal action against the media outlet on BBC Radio 4’s Today program.

The BAFTA-nominated individual shared during a radio interview that a civil lawsuit wasn’t the appropriate solution for the situation at hand. He explained further that Mardoch’s agency had manipulated the victims to prevent them from speaking out. Consequently, he argued that a criminal case would be more suitable.

The actor from Notting Hill stated, “For the past decade, they’ve consistently carried out this action.” He further noted, “They’ve invested approximately £1 billion to prevent these matters from being questioned in court… and there are no thorough judicial verdicts. I believe what they fear is that such verdicts might initiate a fresh criminal investigation.

In simpler terms, he emphasized that stronger measures need to be taken regarding this matter since those who were employed at The Sun during the misconduct remain influential.
