As a lifestyle expert with a keen eye for cinema, I must say that Hugh Grant’s return to the Bridget Jones franchise is nothing short of delightful news. Having followed the series since its inception, it’s fascinating to see how Grant’s character, Daniel Cleaver, has evolved over the years, mirroring some aspects of his real-life persona.
Hugh Grant will be stepping back into the character of Daniel Cleaver for the fourth installment of the Bridget Jones series, titled “Mad About the Boy,” slated for release on Valentine’s Day 2025. In an interview with Vanity Fair, Grant discussed his role in the film and shared that some scenes were rewritten before he agreed to take part in the project.
At first, Grant claimed he wasn’t involved in the film, but later admitted to reading the script, finding it exceptionally captivating and deciding he couldn’t miss out on such a production. Nevertheless, his role was minimal, leading him to contribute some lines to enrich it further.
Speaking to a media outlet, the actor from Notting Hill admitted that the script moved him nearly to tears and he felt compelled to contribute to the project. He also mentioned that despite his eagerness to star in the movie, there were very few roles available for his character, Daniel Cleaver.
Rather than giving up on the opportunity, the actor chose to revise the script personally. He expressed his feelings, stating, “I can’t bear to part with it, as I believe it’s incredibly amusing and deeply touching.
He went on to reveal, “I’m not in a lot; I did a week’s work, that’s it… But when you see the film, you’ll be very moved.” Grant has been one of the constant actors in the Bridget Jones franchise alongside Renee Zellweger and Isla Fischer.
Additionally, Hugh Grant confessed that the portrayal of his Bridget Jones character mirrored aspects of his true self. He admitted, “Some individuals in my circle have often remarked, ‘That’s a lot more like the genuine Hugh.’
In the initial film, Daniel found himself defeated by the character Zeffirelli, only to reappear in the sequel titled “Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason.
Regarding his role in the third film of the series, the actor admitted he struggled to identify with it and ultimately chose to relinquish the part. Fans of the saga speculated that Daniel’s character was deceased after being omitted from the script for the next installment.
Indeed, as it’s confirmed that Grant will reprise his role in the fourth film, viewers can anticipate gaining fresh insights into the character.
Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy will hit theaters on February 14, 2025.
