Hugh Grant Opens Up On Colin Firth’s Casting In Bridget Jones Sequels; Says ‘It’s Nice To Give The Old Boy…’

As a die-hard fan of these iconic films and the captivating chemistry between Hugh Grant, Colin Firth, and Renee Zellweger, I can hardly contain my excitement for the upcoming Bridget Jones movie! The thought of watching Daniel Cleaver and Mark Darcy share the screen once again is simply exhilarating.

In the forthcoming Bridget Jones film, Hugh Grant reprises his role as Daniel Cleaver. Alongside Renée Zellweger, Grant will act alongside Colin Firth in this upcoming production.

On Late Night with Seth Meyers, Grant shared his views about the possibility of The King’s Speech actor featuring in future instalments of the film series.

During an interview with Meyers, the actor from Notting Hill admitted that he’s content with Firth being cast in the movie and playfully teased about the producers attempting to get the star of Mamma Mia for the role throughout the years. In reference to Firth taking on the part of Mark Darcy, Grant quipped, “I guess poor Colin is still getting used.” He continued to joke, “No worries, it’s good to keep the old man busy.

When Seth Meyers inquired if Grant considered providing Firth with screen time a form of “charity,” the actor who portrayed Wonka acknowledged the term seemed fitting to him. He explained that Firth has been actively working in the industry for many years, and while he might not say so directly, it’s outstanding work. Whoever made it is brilliant.

Beyond the delightful Bridget Jones films, I’ve discovered that Hugh Grant and Colin Firth have graced our screens together in another captivating production – the 2003 masterpiece, Love Actually. In this cinematic universe, their characters share a charming rivalry, expressing their feelings for the enigmatic Bridget Jones in a series of humorous exchanges.

To be completely honest, my ardor for their work knows no bounds, but even off-camera, their sharp words have often echoed. The banter between them hasn’t just been confined to the silver screen, it’s extended beyond that too.

Earlier in an interview with Vanity Fair, the actor from Four Weddings and a Funeral expressed that he would enjoy witnessing Colin Firth’s decline by sitting in the front row. Grant further explained, “Sipping a pint of London Pride while snacking on Twiglets and learning about Colin Firth experiencing a major flop at the box office.

In addition to Renée Zellweger, other stars appearing in Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy include Leo Woodall, Isla Fisher, and Emma Thompson.

The movie is scheduled to hit theaters in 2025.
