Since the debut of Deadpool and Wolverine, Marvel movies have surprised audiences with unexpected character collaborations. The film has been hailed as a box-office smash due to its impressive guest appearances and the team-up of Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman.
The movie is currently making a splash at theaters, and it seems there could be another Marvel showdown on the horizon for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Besides the upcoming Deadpool 3, the Marvel panel also hinted at Robert Downey Jr.’s return to the series, this time as the sinister character Dr. Doom.
As fans speculate about the actor’s transformation into a MCU villain following his year as Iron Man, an alternate comic-book storyline is now being developed. Just over a month since its unveiling at the Comic-Con panel, Italian artist Francesco Mobili has produced a work titled “Dr. Doom vs Wolverine,” depicting Dr. Doom using his powers to strip Wolverine’s skin and leave him for dead.
In October 2025, the latest phase of Marvel comics is expected to debut, featuring Dr. Doom’s rule over various timelines. There’s speculation that Wolverine might meet his end at the hands of Dr. Doom, due to Mobili’s artwork becoming public. One of the new cover illustrations by this artist depicts Dr. Doom in a green suit, pulling the actor who plays Wolverine by his mask, and replacing his face with a skeletal structure.
Based on current theories, it’s expected that Dr. Doom will assume a more prominent role in the Marvel Universe, potentially replacing Dr. Strange. This is due to the fact that Dr. Doom’s character, as portrayed in the upcoming Avengers movies, seems to possess magical knowledge comparable to Benedict Cumberbatch’s Dr. Strange. The audience will be introduced to this new version of Dr. Doom when Avengers: Doomsday is released in cinemas, which is planned for May 2026.
I can hardly contain my excitement! In May 2027, Iron Man’s arch-nemesis, Victor van Doom, will once again be brought to life by the one and only Robert Downey Jr.! This epic battle unfolds under the guidance of the Russo Brothers, who are back in action after a five-year hiatus, directing Avengers: Secret Wars. The anticipation is killing me!
