How to unlock and use Pop-up Camps in Monster Hunter Wilds

In Monster Hunter Wilds, Pop-up Camps serve as a novel feature that allows players more freedom in selecting their base camps compared to the set locations in Monster Hunter World. While the available spots are pre-selected, the game provides a broader range of options for camp placement, including varying levels of safety and proximity to monsters you frequently encounter during combat.

As someone who can hardly wait to escape the confines of the base camp and settle into my mobile abode, let me share with you an exciting way to set up Pop-up Camps:

1. Unpack your gear: Carefully take out all the components from their respective storage bags or containers.
2. Locate the stakes and mallet: Find the tent stakes and mallet to secure your camp in place.
3. Assemble the frame: Follow the instructions provided with your Pop-up Camps model to assemble its main structure.
4. Spread out the canvas: Lay down the outer layer of the tent, ensuring that it is smooth and taut.
5. Attach the frame: Connect the assembled frame to the outer layer, allowing the tent to pop up into its full form.
6. Secure the stakes: Drive the tent stakes into the ground at each corner and any additional anchor points as specified by the manufacturer.
7. Add the inner tent: If your Pop-up Camps model comes with an inner tent, attach it to the frame for added comfort and protection from the elements.
8. Set up the rainfly (optional): Depending on the weather forecast, you may choose to add a rainfly for extra water resistance. Attach it to the tent structure using the provided clips or hooks.
9. Arrange your gear: Organize your belongings inside the tent, making sure everything is easily accessible and ready for use.
10. Relax and enjoy your home away from home!

How to unlock Pop-up Camps

In Monster Hunter Wilds, you’ll get an early access to Pop-up Camps during Chapters 1-3, following your successful hunt of Congalala. Subsequently, you’ll receive the Camping Kit item and learn how to set up a camp in Area 13, close to the Oasis. Once you’ve done this, you can enter the camp and enjoy all the facilities available at the base camp tent such as cooking, equipment customization, posting quests, and other useful features.

At first, you can set up just two Pop-up Camps in each location, but as you advance in the narrative and improve your hunter rank, more appealing options for placing your portable tents – up to five spots per area – will become available.

With your Camping Kit and first portable tent in hand, feel free to explore new locations during your travels, as you may come across more places suitable for setting up your second tent. These areas are typically marked by the game, prompting you to inspect them closely, or a signpost will appear on your map, indicating the location for future reference. Additionally, look out for groups of Quatreflies on your map, as they often lead to potential camping sites.

How to place Pop-up Camps

First of all, there are three safety levels to consider when placing down a Pop-up Camp:

  • Dangerous: The highest likelihood of being discovered and destroyed by a monster
  • Insecure: Not quite the monster magnetic of dangerous, but still a little risky
  • Safe: All but completely safe from big, scary monster tramplings

To put it simply, I strongly advise staying clear from any pop-up camps that might be hazardous, as they tend to attract monstrous entities. If your pop-up camp gets discovered—or worse, if your tent becomes a target in territorial disputes—it can be damaged, making the camp unusable for up to 10 minutes or until you pay Guild Points to get it quickly fixed.

Instead, I’d advise exploring caves and hidden areas for safer camping sites. While they might not provide immediate access to the center of the action like riskier locations, you can rest assured that these spots will keep you away from the unrelenting fury of a beast.

One simple method to establish Pop-up Camps is through the Pop-up Camp Meowster in Windward Plains, or the Support Desk Felynes stationed at other base camps. They help you monitor all discovered campsites, providing a clearer and more comprehensive overview of safety conditions, as well as identifying areas on your map that may need further exploration.

As a gamer, I’d say, “Alright, let’s chat. Time to manage those Pop-up Camps, friend. Choose the spot you fancy for setting up camp. Pick it from the list that appears, then click ‘Set Up Camp.’ The cost varies, could be between 25 to 70 points, depending on where you decide to settle down.

If you find yourself in the field and need to quickly set up a camp, simply navigate to your radial wheel for the Camping Kit. Press the Square button to deploy it at the desired campsite, then confirm when prompted to set up the Pop-up Camp. In no time, you’ll have a shiny new tent ready for use!

How to remove Pop-up Camps

If you wish to relocate your camp to a different spot (for instance, I strongly advise dismantling the camp suggested for setup in Chapters 1-3 since it’s a poor choice frequently damaged rather than functioning), luckily, the procedure for doing so is straightforward.

You can either talk to the Pop-up Camp Specialist stationed near each traveling tent, or head to the Pop-up Camp Master or Help Desk Kitty. If you’re at a camp you wish to remove, just click on “Remove Pop-up Camp” and confirm. If you’re with the Master or Help Desk, you’ll need to go to “Manage Pop-up Camps,” select the tent area on the map, find the tent you want to remove there, and then choose the “Remove Camp” option.

After verifying the relocation of the camp, you’ll find yourself with an open space ripe for setting up your tent somewhere new! Just be aware that if you attempt to move and re-set up the Pop-up Camp in the same spot immediately, it will set you back twice as many Guild Points.

How to customize Pop-up Camps

As a fan, I’ve discovered that Pop-up Camps aren’t just about functionality; they’re all about style too! Overcoming the Alpha Doshugama in Chapter 1-4 grants me the privilege to adorn my camp with a variety of fashionable furniture items outside my designated area. Plus, I can customize the color and pattern of my tent, as well as adding personal designs, making each Pop-up Camp uniquely mine!

To personalize pop-up camps, you follow the same process as deleting them: Simply interact with the Meowster, Support Desk, or a Purrfesional stationed by the Pop-up Camp, then choose the “Edit Pop-up Camps” option. This allows you to adjust the tent and camp equipment settings according to your preferences.

At the moment, it appears that we can’t access extra items. Regrettably, but perhaps soon they might become additional purchases in a downloadable content package.
