After numerous years of anticipation and much patience, the Nintendo Switch 2 is almost upon us. Enthusiasts of the portable console have been engaged in an online scuffle to secure pre-orders for a few weeks now. However, it’s likely that not every fan was successful in securing a Switch 2 before its June 5 launch date. If you find yourself in this predicament, know that you’re certainly not the only one! I, too, am yet to obtain one. So, how can we possibly get our hands on a Switch 2 without a pre-order? It might not be as challenging as it seems.
On the day of its release, numerous stores will carry Nintendo Switch 2 units available for purchase. If you’re planning to drop by and grab one, remember it’s first-come, first-served. Moreover, there are many physical stores where you can find the console in stock.
1. You might need to contact them to check their inventory and select an option that suits you best.
2. Additionally, other stores have special promotions or procedures for obtaining a Nintendo Switch 2. Let’s discuss some of these options:
Or in a more conversational tone:
3. Give them a call to find out what they’ve got in stock and pick the deal that fits you best.
4. And, there are other retailers running specific events or procedures for getting a Nintendo Switch 2. Let’s check out some of these offers:
Getting a Switch 2 From Best Buy
Based on the retailer’s online information, most of their stores plan to launch the new Switch 2 at midnight Eastern Time, while some may also hold inventory for those who didn’t pre-order. Since this varies by time zone in the U.S., it’s advisable to contact your local store and verify when they will start selling the Switch 2.
GameStop Will Have a Switch 2 Pre-Release Event
At GameStop, there’ll be game launches happening at midnight, though certain outlets seem to have a pre-launch event scheduled for June 4th. It remains unclear if this is a storewide occurrence or the specifics of such an event.
Didn’t pre-order Switch 2? We got you.

It appears that the retailer is inviting people who missed the pre-order for the Switch 2 to visit their stores and try to purchase one instead. It would be wise to contact your nearby store as soon as possible.
Target Will Dish out Switch 2 Tickets for Those Without Pre-Orders
If you’re planning to buy the new Nintendo Switch at Target, it’s best not to arrive at midnight as the store won’t be releasing items that early. Instead, they’ll open at their usual time, which for my local Target is 8 AM Eastern Time.
In simpler terms, you might want to join a queue along with other applicants, and if fortune favors you, you’ll be given a chance to buy one console. The number of tickets distributed can vary from store to store, depending on the stock availability, which in turn affects how many tickets you receive. However, if you’re in a less populated area, you might have a better chance due to less competition.
Walmart’s Website Might Tell You How Many Switch 2 Consoles Are Available
It’s been said that certain Walmart outlets have the audacity to disclose the number of gaming consoles they plan to sell. However, when I looked online for my local Walmart, I couldn’t find that specific information. Furthermore, it doesn’t appear that they will open early or hold a midnight release. Given the fact that some pre-orders have been canceled, customers might want to steer clear of the store regardless. Quite intriguing.
Costco Cuts the Competition Among Those Without a Switch 2 Pre-Order
At Costco, eager buyers will find some Nintendo Switch 2 consoles available for purchase. A key advantage of shopping at Costco is that membership is required to enter the store, which means fewer people to contend with. Unfortunately, the exact number each store will receive remains uncertain, as there was no pre-order option. Additionally, Costco enforces a rule where only one console can be purchased per person.
It’s time to strategize and try to grab that Switch 2. Good luck!
