How to get Novacrystal in Monster Hunter Wilds

In Monster Hunter Wilds, you’ll find it beneficial to acquire a Novacrystal for various late-game weapon enhancements. Particularly important are the final weapon in the Ore family and the second Rey Dau weapon. If your character specializes in physical damage or enjoys using thunder attacks, this is a valuable resource to keep an eye on.

In Monster Hunter World, acquiring Novacrystal isn’t possible until you advance to High Rank. Once you reach this level, there are several methods to obtain it, one of which involves hunting a particular monster exclusive to higher difficulties. Here’s a guide on how to get Novacrystal in Monster Hunter World.

Monster Hunter Wilds Novacrystal location

There are two different ways to get Novacrystal in Monster Hunter Wilds:

  • Harvest mining outcrops in the Ruins of Wyveria in High Rank
  • Break a Gypceros’s head or destroy its wounds during High Rank hunts

To start, you’ll easily reach High Rank once you finish the primary storyline and defeat a Yian Kut-Ku. Subsequently, navigate your way to the Ruins of Wyveria, where you can find mining resources. Specifically, there’s one outcrop near Sild’s entrance, two more in area 5, another pair in area 8.

Because this item is uncommon, when you manage to obtain it, your hunter will perform a small animation showing they’re examining a glittering stone. However, getting it immediately from these nodes isn’t always certain. If you don’t get it, either wait for the nodes to reset or spend 300 Guild Points in your tent to rest and refresh them all.

Another method to obtain a Novacrystal: strangely enough, by shattering its head or inflicting wounds on a Gypceros during combat. Cracking its skull offers a 30% chance of acquiring one, while damaging any wound has a significantly lower probability of around 12%. To be completely candid, it’s more advantageous to mine instead given these odds, and the only instance you’ll encounter a Gypceros is during the Beware the Gypceros quest in Kunafa.

In other words, by doing so, you’ll be able to gather materials from the villagers in this area. So, if you feel like trying your luck, go ahead and catch one, smash a few parts, and maybe you’ll find something useful.
