How to cure Vampirism in Elder Scrolls 4 Oblivion Remastered

In The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, curing Vampirism is no trivial matter. The game portrays this advanced affliction not just as a simple illness but something much more profound. If treated early when it’s in its Prophyric Hemophilia stage, it can be manageable, but once you’ve fully transformed into a vampire, you might find yourself living as an undead bloodsucker for quite some time in Oblivion Remastered.

Luckily, there are multiple strategies for discovering the antidote to vampirism in Oblivion Remastered, allowing you to regain your humanity. Here’s a rundown of each method I’ve personally tried:

However, it’s worth pondering whether you’d actually prefer this change… Becoming a vampire involves exchanging new abilities and enhancements for fresh vulnerabilities and the constant demand for blood. If you’re curious about how to transform into a vampire, or conversely, how to break free from this state, and all the pros and cons associated with either choice, let us guide you through the ins and outs of the undead lifestyle in Cyrodiil.

How to cure Vampirism in Elder Scrolls 4 Oblivion Remastered

There are three methods to curing vampirism in Oblivion Remastered, which are as follows:

  • Cure it as a disease in the first 72 hours when it’s still Prophyric Hemophilia.
  • Find and use the Font of Renewal in Deepscorn Hollow.
  • Complete the Vampire Cure quest with the Witch Melisande.

The difficulty level decreases as we move along: It’s most straightforward to treat if it’s during the Hemophilia stage; on the other hand, collaborating with Melisande involves a lengthy journey that may require you to traverse various locations multiple times. However, let’s delve into the specifics.

Prophyric Hemophilia

When characters sustain damage from Vampire Non-Player Characters (NPCs), they contract a condition known as Prophyric Hemophilia, which resembles a disease. This state lasts for 72 hours before transforming into genuine vampirism. However, if treated promptly like any other illness, Prophyric Hemophilia can be cured entirely, thus preventing the character from becoming a vampire in the first place. You can accomplish this by various means, such as:

  • Drink a Potion of Cure Disease
  • Cast the Cure Disease Restoration spell
  • Pray at any Chapel Shrine
  • Eat a Mandrake Root

If it takes longer than 72 hours after contracting Hemophilia for you to find a cure, you’ll transform into a true vampire, and the previously mentioned treatments will no longer be effective.

Incidentally, in the game Oblivion Remastered, a character may offer to transform you into a Vampire by infecting you with Prophyric Hemophilia during the Dark Brotherhood questline. For assistance on locating these mysterious assassins, our guide provides useful information.

Deepscorn Hollow and the Font of Renewal

Players can discover Deepscorn Hollow, an underground spot, at the spot indicated on the map above. This area is reached via an underwater entrance within a decaying log. Upon entering Deepscorn Hollow, navigate through to the Vile Cloister and you’ll stumble upon the Font of Renewal – a grand stone situated in the center of a pool.

In that very room, where you find the Font of Renewal, there’s a mineable deposit of Purgeblood Salts. By using these salts on the stone, you can cure your vampirism!

Vampire Cure quest

After becoming a vampire, visiting Raminus Polus at the Arcane University in Imperial City and conversing with him initiates a lengthy quest focused on finding a remedy. Here’s an outline of the process:

1. Gather Vampire Dust from various locations across Tamriel.
2. Bring the collected dust to Raminus Polus who will then create a potion known as “Vampiric Cure.”
3. Drink the potion, but beware! The process is painful and may require assistance from a friend or ally.
4. After drinking the cure, you’ll become a non-vampire for a short period of time.
5. During this transition, avoid sunlight as much as possible to prevent turning back into a vampire.
6. Visit Raminus Polus once more to complete the quest and fully regain your human form.

  1. Speak to Raminus Polus about a cure for vampirism.
  2. He directs you to Count Janus Hassildor in Skingrad Castle. Speak with him.
  3. The Count directs you to a Witch called Melisande.
  4. Melisande is in a hut in Drakelowe, to the South of Cheydinhal.
  5. After speaking to her, she asks you to bring her back five empty grand soul gems.
  6. After this, she asks you to bring her two bloodgrass shoots, five nightshade leaves, six cloves of garlic, blood from any Argonian NPC (enemy or not), and dust from a vampire called Hindaril the player will need to slay.
  7. Bring these back to Melisande and wait a day, and she’ll give you a potion that will cure your Vampirism (as well as one for the Hassildors).

Indeed, it’s quite an involved task, but the reward is definitely worth it – I’m talking about a cool thousand gold pieces from the Count upon completion! It feels great to be of service.

Is being a Vampire in Oblivion Remastered worth it?

Being a vampire in Oblivion Remastered involves a balance that relies heavily on your gameplay style. There are various advantages and disadvantages that shift based on the time elapsed since your last feeding, with each day without blood increasing the stage by one.

  • Vampire Buffs
    • Stats
      • Immunity to Paralysis
      • Disease resistance (scales to stage of Vampirism)
      • Weapon damage resistance (scales to stage of Vampirism)
      • Increases to Strength, Willpower and Speed (scales to stage of Vampirism)
      • Increases to Acrobatics, Athletics, Destruction, Hand-to-hand, Illusion, Mysticism and Sneak skills (scales to stage of Vampirism)
    • Spells/Abiltiies
      • Can cast Hunter’s Sight (Night vision and Detect life) at Stage 1+
      • Can cast Vampire’s Seduction (Charm) at Stage 2+
      • Can cast Reign of Terror (Silence and Demoralize enemies) at Stage 3+
      • Can cast Embrace of Shadows (Night vision and Invisibility) at Stage 4.
  • Vampire penalties
    • Take increasing damage from being in sunlight when in Stage 2+ (scales to stage of Vampirism)
    • Weakness to fire (scales to stage of Vampirism)
    • Players must drink blood (interacting with sleeping NPCs) to reset to Stage 1 of Vampirism. This does not harm the NPC, but is a crime if caught.
    • The character’s eyes change to red.

Although the vulnerability to sunlight is quite significant, it’s evident that there are perks and benefits associated with this trait, making it an effective skill set for specific character roles and attributes. For instance, if you’re designing a character centered around unarmed combat in Oblivion Remastered or if you’re a stealthier player aiming to complete the Thieves Guild questline in Oblivion Remastered, this weakness could prove advantageous due to its unique implications.
