How To Break Berach’s Curse In Tainted Grail: The Fall Of Avalon

In the mystical realm of Avalon, brimming with both magic and peril, you find yourself plunged into its heart in “Tainted Grail: The Fall Of Avalon“. From your initial stirring within the Island Asylum to when you begin establishing a stronghold and further, you’ll encounter enchantments and listen to narratives of curses.

One individual bearing a curse is Berach, a man harboring dreams of knighthood. Unfortunately, his fortunes have waned, and a malignant force has cast a spell upon him, trapping him under a bridge for an uncertain fate – or so it seems. Regardless, he remains ensnared in this position and could greatly benefit from the compassion of someone willing to aid him in breaking free from the confines of the bridge and assist him in his plight.

How To Complete Age Of Excuses

Berach is located beneath a damaged part of a bridge, specifically northwest from the Archspire fast travel spot, right in the heart of the Horns Of The South. He’s the one who offers the Age of Excuses quest.

Talk to him and he’ll share the tale of the curse that has befallen him. You can choose to aid him on this journey. Begin by returning to the Horns of the South Keep first. Return to the room located to the left of Fearghas’ workspace, and converse with the local healer named Jann.

He’ll provide a fresh conversation point linked to the Era of Excuses, and offer a clue about who you should converse with next. After that, you’ll need to interact with a hermit called Drest, and he can be found on the sandy shores right below the fortress.

Speaking with Keeper Dan initiates the side quest “Investigate The Shore.” This quest serves as a direct path to finding Drest and rewards you with some experience points upon completion.

From the village located at the back of the fortress, head south until you reach the southwestern tip of the map. After that, follow the coastline to your right past some partially submerged ruins, and you will discover Drest hidden in a nook underneath the keep.

Talk to him about the affliction, and he’ll provide you with a formula for an Unappetizing Healing Draught, which you can prepare at an Alchemist’s Table using five Sage leaves, two measures of Whiskey, and one Grindylow Claw.

Material How To Obtain
Whiskey x2 Found randomly inside crates, barrels, and sacks in any location, such as those at the Horns Of The South Keep.
Sage x5 Harvest from Sage plants, which can be found growing next to cliffs, trees, along paths, and bridges.

Can also be purchased from Jann Hepler at the Horn Of The South.

Grindylow Claw x1 Defeat any Grindylow and loot one off their bodies.

Two Grindylows can always be found near the fast travel point outside the Archspire, and one sometimes spawns north of the Hunter’s Lodge, near the keep.

If you explore the partly underwater remains close to Drest, you might discover two chests that can be unlocked using a lockpick. One of these chests holds the Cascade Surge bow.

After obtaining the Revulsive Healing Draught, make your way back to Berach. Discuss the curse with him then. You’ll be presented with two choices during the conversation: either perform the ritual using the draught on him, or reassure him that no curse is present.

  • If you tell Berach that there isn’t a curse, this will enrage him and force you into a fight with him, ending in his death, and the side quest will fail after he’s dead. He only drops the basic loot you’d find on a sword-wielding Outlaw, so it isn’t worth it to kill him.

Choose to carry out the rite on Berach instead, and he’ll express his gratitude for your assistance. In return, you’ll earn 300 EXP by finishing the quest, an extra 150 EXP in general, and a Soulstone – a unique amulet that regains your health and mana completely when fully charged by defeating enemies.
